I'd actually say the opposite, in that she's been incredibly lucky. The Q customers that she's catered for from day one still want the same thing - stretchy sheets that will still fit after a competitive hot dog eating marathon. No pesky zips, or buttons 'cause that's hard work, and definitely no ironing! They need to have these garish and busy patterns in order to disguise the dribble/gravy stains. So in all, she's not had to do anything but to continue churning out the same old stuff year in year out. Her stuff can never go out of fashion if it was never in in the first place. Hope there's never a fire in her factory it would be toxic!
I was being ironic.

That is a frightening thought ! that those customers who still buy her stuff were clearly 20 odd years younger when Kim started, which means they never cared what they threw on, even at a younger age  , and must have dressed like their old grannies 😂.

Years ago she did do some lovely ditzy prints which had the Laura Ashley look, - she should try that again, and bring us some viscose instead of the poly/elastene.

I agree about the ditzy prints, brissles. I bought one years ago when they had those £10 clearance offers and it comes out summer after summer and still looks the business. I did actually buy a couple of garish flower prints also many years ago, seduced by the on-screen demos into thinking this is what I should be wearing. No, it wasn't. I looked cheaper and older in them and they just never seemed to go with any trousers or jeans in my wardrobe, even though the colours should have matched, so yet another charity shop donation. I'm not a large flower girl, nor are a lot of us. I've bought my share of Kim over the years and I think she has a bit of catching up to do.

Are the large prints a way of disguising thin fabric and why doesn't she do plain colours as wardrobe basics?

I actually have owned quite a lot of Kim's clothes and in fact still have one dress which I love - and not cos the pattern hides the gravy...but it helped when staggering home, kebab in hand late at night lol! I agree - her patterns and florals were a lot more subtle back in the day, and imvho I don't think Kim's the worst offender when it comes to the garish, the frumpy, and the sweaty - Michele Hope wins hands down!
I also agree with MML - Nobody looks good in that top! There's usually someone who looks better than another in something or makes something look remotely wearable...but this is the perfect storm of awfulness!

I have 2 sleeveless slightly swing tops in a very small print, 1 navyish 1 cerise which I take on holiday each year for wearing to dinner with linen trousers. They have served me well but have nothing else although I did buy the odd top most of which I hardly wore.

I have a number of Kim dresses from a time when she had an excellent instinct for prints.
I’m too overweight for them now, sadly, so they are in line for decluttering.
Most of Q’s “designers” have fallen victim to the migraine-inducing pattern, and I can only think that Q’s relentless drive to reduce prices has meant a strong need for a diversion from the thinner, cheaper-looking fabrics.

The hope being that garish patterns will disguise the thinness of the fabric, otherwise why not give us plain colours in these fabrics? If the same people have been buying the same stuff from the same designer for 20 years, once they don't need to buy any more stuff, that market will collapse.
