I got re married 9 years ago..I opted for a low cost wedding,no honeymoon and a whopping diamond ring which I absolutely love(and hubby picked it himself) ha!!
My son is getting married this year and I'm delighted they are having the wedding in the UK.:clapping: If they had eloped/gone abroad and not invited anyone, I would have understood & hid my disappointment:angel::sad:but I'm so glad I'll get to see them both and be part of the happy day!:clapping::clapping::clapping:
I also had to have my original wedding and engagement rings cut off, due to pre-eclamsia in my second pregnancy. It was only after that that I found out that OH had paid around £200 for the engagement ring, alot of money for us 26 years ago! He was truely gutted that the ring was ruined, it was cut at 2 points, and at the time we could not afford repairs. He went out and bought me a new wedding and engagement ring (of similar design) but this time both rings cost less than £80. I have never, really given much thought to my now ring being cheaper or of less quality. My original rings sit boxed up in my knicker drawer.
My middle son got married 15 months ago and I did all the invitations. They also requested people to give them money towards the honeymoon, as they had lived together and really didn't need stuff for their home. So instead of a gift list they had this poem instead.
We know it's not tradition, it's not the way, we know
But instead of a wedding list
We'd like a bit of snow!
We've lived together quite a while and all the bills are paid
We've got our plates, our pots and pans,
Our plans have all been made.
We would appreciate your help though
To send us on our way -
A contribution to our honeymoon, in a land quite far away.
But most importantly, we request,
You come to our wedding as our guest
To share with us our special day
And have some fun along the way
People loved it and their problems over what to give were solved.
