JR's Teef!!

plug.jpgI don't like the TOWIE trend for having the length of the top front teeth lengthened (veneers or crowns) to make the top lip appear more pouty. If you're hardly able to close your lips together the face looks somewhere between gormless and agressive when in a relaxed state. It's a weird trend that will cost the £££ to re-do when they come to their senses.

I had my teef "done" when I was 21. I needed a brace for non cosmetic reasons but the orthodontist ... who by the way was drop dead gorgeous ... said oh we'll straighten em up a bit as well. I didn't think there was anything wrong with my teef before he started. But once he'd done it made a big difference. They're not Hollywood perfect and they are my own teef. He also cleaned/whitened my teef because I had had a train track brace.

It was painful beyond belief. When he adjusted the tension on the brace to move the offending tooth it literally made my eyes water. I had ulcers inside my top lip for weeks on end and oh did my poor teef ache! The perils of having a brace as an adult apparently.

So I'm all for getting teef done and I can understand the trend for veneers rather than braces but it does need to be subtle and not blingy.

I can't see any difference in Julia's teef so if she has had them done it must be subtle. I do agree she's a little fuller in the face but I think it really suits her. She's got a good jawline so the fuller cheeks don't come at the price of a double chin.

I had my teef sorted when I was 10/11 because they were growing in crooked and overcrowding my mouth. The trouble was that my gob was too small for the full set of 32 (yes unbelievable I know ) and my dentist had to extract 4 perfectly good double molars and then refer me on to see a specialist. I was extremely lucky because he actually referred me to Harley St (!) and Mum had to take me every month for a year to see a brilliant lady orthodontist who fitted braces top and bottom which were checked and adjusted every month. I felt quite intimidated going there because in those days it was considered very posh and out of reach for NHS patients but now I realise just how fortunate I was to get this treatment. Like you Tinks I had the full monty top and bottom and I remember feeling very embarrassed and hating them with a vengeance whereas these days so many kids and adults have them they have almost become a fashion accessory lol. How-ever, they certainly did the trick for me and I think that is why I am very aware of other peoples' teef to this day.

The advantage of having braces as an adult is you don't have to face the schooldays pisstake.

Luckily these days all the teenagers seem to sport train tracks very happily and no p*ss take. My son had a set during his early teens and the result is gorgeous (and he knows it!)

I had by lower set straightened a couple of years ago, when I was younger I had 4 back teef extracted (common practise back then) but without a brace all that happened was the back teef moved forwards and the front were still over-crowded. As well as looking straighter I couldn't floss before and long-term this could have lead to early tooth -loss. I used to work in "Oral Health" (titter) and there's very little othodontic work available on the NHS except for extreme problems and even then patients are steered towards better looking private treatment with the threat of ugly night-time head braces on the NHS.

And the trend for coloured elastics on the train tracks too. I never allowed my DD to have colours (evil, mean mother) because I said it would look like food stuck there. She has never forgiven me! She had a fantastic result too Bauble. She was fitted aged 13 for 18 months and was extremely painful at the tightening times then tenderness, then 18 months with retainers.

Does she not have to wear the retainer at night a few times a week LIAM? My DS was told to keep with it a few nights weekly for life. Luckily his girlfriend wears hers too at night so I imagine they wear them together HAHA. He misplaced it once and didnt wear it for about 5 nights and it felt tight at first when he used it again.

She wore retainers 24 hours for 18 months but removed for eating only Bauble. She was very good and understood her teeth would float without them in for the correct amount of time. I don't think this message is taken in by youngsters and when children mention to me in my primary school they will have braces in seniors I tell them, small price to pay whilst bone is forming around new position. DD friend refused to wear her retainer and her teeth did float.

Hes not big headed though Tinks, he just knows his smile works

) I know I've got a killer smile which was only enhanced by the orthodontic treatment. My lovely mum used to say that I had a smile that would stop traffic.

Good on your boy. A smile will get him a long way in this world lol

Aaah perhaps people who have to have a couple of teeth removed and have a brace pull teeth together as with my DS, have to keep wearing it regularly to stop teeth trying to drift back to their original place. He had the top two teeth behind his canines removed due to overcrowding.

Same with DD Bauble, she had 4 back teeth removed (2 top 2 bottom) and tracks on both. We went through agonies agreeing to it cos teeth were perfect and half of me wished they were filled or rotten to justify extraction! We were heartened by the fact she would have space for wisdoms to come through as family history of horrors in that department I can tell you!

I had mine done 14 years ago when I was 12. Had the full works for a couple of years and ended up with a beautiful set of peggies. Then over the last 3 years my wisdom teeth have come through and buggered everything up again by knocking a few crooked! Grrrr! All that pain for nothing. On the plus side they are lovely and clean as I have a major thing about teeth! (Which is why I can't look at James Arthur!)

Oh and I asked my dentist how much an adult brace would be and my vanity cannot justify the price I'm afraid!
