Joan Collins v Lulu

If you compare Joanie to say Joan Rivers who was never away from the surgeon, big difference. Poor Joan Rivers started to look Chinese her eye pulled so tight.

Joanie looks like a elderly lady who loves the glamour and sticks with the old Hollywood style.

its called the pixie look. the eyes the cheeks and the lips. awful! sucessfull surgery is hardly noticeable.

I was astounded that Jane F was fronting that anti ageing cream as even before it aired the dogs in the street knew she had surgery. I used to shout at the TV every time it came on, plus it took a long long time to pull it.

When I see celebs with bad face lifts and bad hair wigs/transplants I always reckon if with their money it turns out like the dogs dinner what chance would I have with 2/6 to spend! Perhaps it is a case of not being able to stop?

Now I could be wrong, but Dame Judi seems to look a stunner without being size zero or having her ears around the back of her head due to surgery.

Sorry Joan C fans - Dame Judi for me every time.

Oh yes Dame Judi is ageing very well, again good bone structure but a lot of self confidence in her abilities. Very elegant lady.

I had a conversation recently with my hairdresser about the Judi Dench look, but we decided as yet I don't have the amount of grey needed or the bone structure so I have stuck with my bob and highlights.

I naively hadn't realised that Jane F had had surgery when she was fronting the face cream, but the ads were suspiciously soft focus so I was never tempted.

i should think it is difficult to stop surgery once you have started, but I always say you can have as much surgery as you like but you are still ageing, nothing can stop that.

Taking it down an age bracket, I think Renee Zellewegger is the ultimate illustration of why not to do plastic surgery. If you look at pictures of her before and after, you really struggle to believe it is the same woman. Before she had a slightly quirky beauty, now she's yet another unoriginal face.

I know their faces are their fortunes, and in showbiz, in Hollywood in particular, it's extremely hard for women to continue to get the roles as they age, but the irony is that they don't seem to get more work when they get this surgery done. Recently, how many roles have we seen Melanie Griffiths in? Or Darryl Hannah? Or Renee Zellewegger?

Yet how many roles do we see Meryl Streep in, Emma Thompson, Helen Mirren? Grow older gracefully and truthfully and let your natural beauty shine through.

Joanie's face and make-up aside, she always looks clothes elegant, but oh dear, her wig last night looked like something we used to dig out of the wardrobe box at amdram ! the studio lights didn't do it any justice, it looked over-hairsprayed and a bit matted on top. Time to go for a sleeker look Joan !

Love her or hate her, for an 81 year old Joanie obviously isn`t ready for carpet slippers and an old knitted cardi. Her arms and hands are a big giveaway of her age and I daresay close up her face would be too but hells bells if I can even be bothered at 80 to do a full makeup and wear high heels and sparkly dress then I`d be chuffed to bits.
At the moment I`m recovering from surgery and have a large arched wound with stitches behind my ear plus stitches inside my ear and several wads of packing shoved in there too. I have a badly swollen face, 2 black eyes and it hurts everytime I move my head, when I swallow and lying down is impossible plus I can`t wash my hair until the stitches are out after 7 days and the packing has to stay in for 3 weeks. I look totally sh*t and how the hell anybody can put themselves through similar for the sake of vanity beats me. I did it to save what little hearing I have and I resemble someone who`se just had a face lift but after this, even if I had the money there`s no way I`d ever contemplate it EVER !

Let's not forget that Joanie is old enough to be Lulu's mum. She's had the good sense to know when to cut back (!) on the work and I hope that Lulu will do the same. The hideous evidence of too much surgery is everywhere and I don't understand how these women can't see the writing on the wall. It's a horrid trend that undermines ordinary women and more high profile women should flaunt their natural aging and embrace it. Surgery doesn't make people look younger, just weirder. As for Judi, I seem to remember she owned up to a spot of eye work but she has problems with her eyes and I don't think she would ever get addicted to surgery. I agree that Joanie's wig last night was a shocker and that's something she can easily and painlessly remedy.

Goodness, Loveinamist - a year to recover sounds dreadful. I hope you are a patient patient... and good luck to you for the op and the recovery.

Get well soon Vienna. As I am too recovering, at least there are two of us who wouldn't have surgery for the sake of appearing younger. Its bad enough having 'necessity' surgery as we get older, and all that entails to recover from it. I suppose as has been said earlier, those with plenty of money who have it done can recuperate in style - especially as the body recovers much slower as we age. Also, despite the majority of surgery being successful, I can't help but think of all those that have 'gone wrong' with disastrous results. No, I'll stay as I am and stick with the Marine Cream !!!!!

I remember watching that 'Hells Kitchen' a few years ago and Joan Collins was one of the guests in the restaurant. I hadn't seen her on the box for some time and was horrified at how she looked it certainly looked like she had had work done that had gone wrong. She still looks unnatural to me but does look a lot better. I thought she looked great in the striped top and jacket last night. Must better than in the lower cut top she wore earlier.

I agree Brissles - there's nothing like having necessity surgery to bring it home to you what a major thing it is - not to be undertaken lightly or frivolously. I was absolutely terrified then ironically had to undergo further surgery under general anaesthetic only a few months after my first ever general anaesthetic surgery (I've had surgeries under local). I've never had anything where there wasn't a medical reason, and I doubt if I would.

It also doesn't matter how much money you have for elective cosmetic surgery, as Julius has pointed out, it is still critical that you have thoroughly researched your surgeon. You're only in their theatre for hours and minutes - but you have to live with the results for the rest of your life. We've seen some pretty dreadful results on celebs which have undoubtedly killed the careers they were trying to prolong stone dead - and they can pick the best of everything and still don't get it right.

My personal suspicion is that the ones who don't know where to stop with cosmetic procedures are the ones who look increasingly unlike themselves: they think if one procedure makes them look good, another will make them look better. It's like medication - more isn't better, it's often downright dangerous.

All the best to all of you who've had surgery. As you say, it's a major thing and why anyone would be desparate enough to do it for the sake of vanity and put their appearance before health, beats me. I hope that the worst of the recuperation period is soon over and will be worth it for you all.

I agree that Dame Judi is wonderful for her age as is Dame Helen Mirran

Think JC has had something done around her mouth/lower cheeks area. There are two tight little pouches that move rather unnaturally when she's speaking. Still, the old girl's looking fine (in that OTT kind of a way).
