Back in the old days when I worked up the chimneys, the staff presenters actually did the presenting. Guests who came in were the designers / manufacturers themselves of the items shown and/or real experts in their field. "Brand Ambassadors" are a relatively new breed and serve only to make the staff presenters surplus to requirements, hence the trite comments. Some brand ambassadors do a good job, but not all of them unfortunately.

I think Grouse was being facetious, you know as in "when i were a lad". Chimney sweeps are hard to find these days. We have to book ours a year in advance.

We use wood/logs but our burner will take coal/coke. You'd be amazed at how many bags of soot he hoovers out of our chimney. Definitely a job that needs doing.

You answered perfectly Candy, I hadn't a clue! All I know is he changed career and trained as a sweep and hasn't looked back. I believe the money is very good.

I think it depends where you live. Mr CC has just said our sweep charges £45. I'm not sure that's true. I thought it was about £90, however, I don't pay that bill. Sweep's probably in the house an hour tops.

Yes, we still have chimney sweeps here, there is one in a van who lives near my friend. So many people opened up their fire places because of the price of gas and burn wood or coal.

Yes, the big chimneys from the well-to-do houses. If a child got struck, they used to light a fire in the hearth to make them move. A very famous book called The Water Babies was written about them, and it helped parliament ban it. The children, usually orphans, were used.

Testicular cancer for these poor little boys was often a result of dealing with daily coal dust.

I use wood pellet stoves and have to have them vacuumed every year. The words 'chimney sweep' threw me off because I associate that job with Victorian Britain. They're called mechanics where I live.

I was indeed referring to those days in the sense of it being a long time ago when QVC had watchable presenters and guests who communicated full and correct information relating to the items on sale.
P.S. I didn't work up chimneys myself.

Hmm. Human beings get cold so they buy heated throws to get warm. Why bring gender into it. Totally irrelevant.

I bought the Cozee home one and there wasn’t any gender mentioned, perhaps it’s only for heterosexuals and not all genders?

This ‘all genders’ thing gets on my nerves.Although being on TV or speaking in public I appreciate in these days you have to be super mindful of what you say, but this is beyond stupid.Not sure who the ‘silly woman’ or should it be silly person, silly living creature? Plenty of choice on QVC.
