A few years ago I bought a second hand, 18ct yellow gold Victorian ring with 3 small diamonds set into it. It cost £430 but I was told to get it independently valued. I wore it for the day and then realised that diamonds don't do anything for my skin tone so decided to keep it for my eldest great niece as it is pretty and diamond is her birthstone. I took it to 2 reputable jewellers and had it valued. I know it's an insurance value but it was between £1500 and £1750. I was staggered. Apparently, although the diamonds are small they are exceptional quality - whatever that means. In one of the shops I tried on a huge rock and the elderly gent said what I'd thought - a diamond is not for me. Shame.
It's only with diamonds that size doesn't matter :mysmilie_17: it's the opposite with diamonds it's quality not quantity, unless it's big with excellent quality of course.
