Last year when Mr L was rushed to hospital a friend went well above friendship in helping us so I purchased one for her as she has a very sweet tooth. She seemed very pleased with it.

I then gave another as a Christmas gift which seemed to go down well but this person has just been diagnosed with type 2 so I don’t imagine it will get much use now.

Life's too short to give everything up. Do you think they'd get away with a cup now and then?

My diet isn't the best despite trying very hard to eat healthily. I eat better now than I ever have but I don't think I would want to live without the odd treat.

It’s a win win situation when you sell choccys .. they will all sell out before Christmas and most people will eat the lot and not coMplain they didn’t like them … such as moi 🤩 ( even if they weren’t my faves lol )

Oh yeah that would be purgatory for me 🤣👍 gotta have a treat ..

I think I'll buy this for a friend who has been doing our shopping since the pandemic began. She loves chocolate and has recently started buying hot chocolate so I think it might go down well. I don't usually spend a lot on gifts since I had to stop work but sometimes I just have to show my appreciation with a nice gift. At least I hope it's nice - I don't own one but tend to buy something I'd fancy myself.

I have the Lidl milk frother that appears to work the same way as the Velvetiser but I always have to get it in the microwave to heat it up after it's done its spin thing. I might try a few HC sachets in it if I ever get out to the shops again but a mix of Twinings, Bourneville and milk choc shavings will do for now.

Does anyone else here know when a chocolate has palm oil in it? I'm very sensitive to the coconut taste I can detect in Cadbury's (and a few other chocolate items - I notice Bahlsen biscuits have changed their packaging and obviously their recipe as I can now taste coconut in it ).

No one else I physically know seems to be able to taste it but I Googled it and Cadbury's had a load of complaints.
The vegetable oil in chocolate is always palm oil. My aversion is ethical & emotional because the destruction of the rain forests & loss of wildlife habitat is heart breaking, myopic & irreversible. I only buy chocolate for baking or gifts & it's usually from Divine, however, our erudite Vienna has told me about Pure Heavenly & I'm waiting for an order to arrive this week. I'm a Brummie & have always loved the history & ethos of Cadbury's, in addition my dad worked for a shipping company & was the first person to export Creme Eggs to the US. I also love York & feel the same way about Rowntree's; the fact that globalisation & greed led to both these companies being quite literally swallowed by the nameless & faceless has bothered me a great deal.

I worked with the grandson of the Rowntrees family. Nice guy. He got shafted by his not-so-nice business partner in a later venture. I hope he continued to do well after getting away from Mr Nasty.

I watched the first two parts of Earthshot last night. It's horrific that money is ruining our planet. Because that's what it boils down to. There are too many people on the planet but at least a lot of us are trying to do something to slow the destruction down. I helped out at a local farm as a kid and saw for myself how most farmers care for their animals AND try to avoid harm to the environment and their animals but those mega-farms in Brazil? No! All the farms near me are small organic farms that let their livestock graze outdoors most of the year. The thought of all those cattle being kept as they are in Brazil, the US and even the huge dairy farms horrifies me. Those farms are run purely for huge profits by the faceless corporations - the same people that are buying up indigenous lands cheaply from corrupt governments and burning the rainforests. Disgusting.

I didn't realise that all the veg oil was palm oil. I wonder why I can only taste that annoying coconut taint in some products? The 30% less sugar Cadbury's (I think it's called that) tastes like the Cadbury's of old to me. I've only had one bar, a gift, as I'm not a chocolate fiend, but now I want another to check out the ingredients and to see if it tastes 'wrong' to me.

I too can't eat Hotel Chocolat (gives me the gripes ;) ), and chocolate given for Christmas can sit unopened til Easter. I AM partial however to a box of Charbonnel et Walker salted caramel truffles -not for sharing. As for drinking chocolate, just a little bit addicted to Whittards Chili Drinking Chocolate - delish.

Imagine the perfect cup of velvety-smooth hot chocolate at home, then imagine whipping one up whenever you fancied it. What's that, now you can? Meet the Velvetiser, a decadent in-home hot chocolate system, thought up by Hotel Chocolat and designed by Dualit. It allows you to create barista-grade hot chocolate at the press of a button, plus boasts a sleek design that'll slot beautifully into your kitchen, and comes with two podcups and a bag of hot chocolate. And sip, ah just in time for Christmas.

Hello Velvetiser
- this chic hot chocolate machine can create the perfect cup of silky-smooth coco, made with real chocolate flakes, in just 2.5 minutes. No need for the resident hot chocolate maker to toil over a stove, heating milk and showering cocoa powder. Simply plug in your Velvetiser, choose your chocolate and milk – dairy or plant-based, or even water if you prefer – and press the button.

Easy clean - with the removable whisk and non-stick coating, it couldn't be easier to wash up after your nightly cocoa (or daily, we don't blame you). Just rinse out with cold water and you're ready for your next run. Please note the Velvetiser is not suitable for dishwashers - but they'd just slow you down anyway!

Choice of colours - with four colours to choose from, you can pick the perfect Velvetiser to match your kitchen and style. Try the smart Platinum, currently only available at QVC, go classic with White or Charcoal, or add some sheen to your counter with look-at-me Copper.

Oh, I wonder if I’m misremembering the price then? I could have absolutely sworn I paid over £100.00 with the postage.

I was given a box of Hotel Chocolat a couple of years as a reward from British Gas. 🤔 A bizarre thing for them to do but it gave me a chance to sample them. I can’t say I was that impressed so have never bothered to buy any since. With regards to the velvetiser - hot chocolate pods in my Tassimo machine suit me and they‘re a lot cheaper to buy.

Sadly, Hotel Chocolat won’t be getting me as a customer.

I bought one last Xmas I think as a TSV, came with 10 coffee sachets and 10 assorted chocolate sachets, but can't remember the price. The PP this time looks a bit steep. Also came with the 2 mugs, never used them!
Ooh yes, I forgot about the latte sachets. Well remembered. I quite like the mugs, we use them all the time. 😊
