Here are a couple of my hogs, my camera skills are not great tho!

We have 2 hedgehog houses in our garden. Leave food out all year as they wake up during hibernation a few times and need something to eat. We've had them coming for years, and both houses are currently occupied.

We feed them kitten biscuits and poultry in jelly cat food. And obviously water. The food is in an upturned plastic container with a hole big enough for hedgies but not cats. Amazing how thin they can be when they stretch out.

My neighbours cat used to bring me presents - old cigarette packets, banana skins, a snooker pocket, a cycling glove and lots of McDonald’s happy meal toys 🤣🤣
 
A friend even asked me to bring Olly Puss over to her house as she had a mouse or rat upstairs. I let him up there and left him to it. We sat in the living chatting, then he cried at the living room door and there was a dead mouse at the bottom of the stairs. My friend was totally shocked. He loved my dog Amber and used to follow us when out for a walk. When she died, he refused to come into the house for over a week. He was mourning.

Nasty creatures are rats. I don't understand why some people have rats as pets. Maybe pet rats are a certain breed.

You could rent out Olly Puss on hourly basis. He or she could make some pocket money for cat treats. (I'm sorry if I'm assuming wrongly that Olly Puss is still with you.)

I'll try the plastic container because I know a neighbourhood cat would devour the food. Surprising to know they can stretch out.

That sounds like an ingenious way of stopping the cats from scoffing the food. You are so lucky they use your houses, we made them exactly as they said but they never used them.
 
Oh I love hedgies!

I’ve been lucky enough to have lots live/visit me in my little garden.

They used to live under the hedge or visit by squeezing themselves under my gate!

So clever!

My neighbour moans since I got my new fence she no longer gets any, but I said she should cut hole in her gate at bottom..

I used to get mating pairs at night in summer - the noise!
It seemed a very aggressive process!!

Plus had mum and hoglets! 😍

I put down water and cat food.
The biscuits sometimes got scoffed by my cat or another one..

Agree with all the advice above about feeding etc

Too many seeds and nuts - like mealworms - not good for their bones

Also the thing about avoiding fish flavoured cat/dog food is slight misnomer. They can and do eat it.
May prefer meat but won’t harm them..

I got a hedgehog house 2 years ago but it’s still in shed!

I got my “new” cat who was very nervous and inquisitive so decided not to put out but must do this year.

The entrance is small enough to keep cats out on mine!

An ex of mine had a few albino rats and my nephew has one I’ve not met!

I’m not a fan of anything with a tail like that - tho recently had to get very brave with mice bc my cat monkey is a nightmare with them at certain times - lots of live ones brought in and found running around bedrooms…!

But I’ve told him he’ll be disowned if he brings in a rat, dead or alive! 🐀

Does Monkey eventually kill the mice he brings in? Some people say that cats are bringing their human a present from outside. As far as I'm concerned I don't want their presents!
 
When I was at school we had two white mice in the class and at the weekend someone was picked to take home until Monday. When it was my turn, I let them out to play, and they went under the sofa. My dad and to move the sofa to get them out and back in the cage before the cat got them.

They bring home to share and something to play with before eventually killing.
Cats are apex predators they bring their prey back as in the wild the female brings prey back to teach the cubs about killing.
