I've heard so many different pronunciations of her surname.

The man currently speaking on the trailers says Gren-ee-er.

Some say Grain-ee-ay.

Some say Green-yer.

Some say Grain-yer.

I say Grayner.

There is no second "I" in it.

When I was learning German at school we would have said "GrIner" as I before E made an E sound and E before I made an I sound.

She's given it a fake French pronunciation akin to Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet)* but I'm not sure the spelling denotes a French origin. My son had a primary teacher called Grenyer (actual spelling). I agree about German pronuciation...English speakers often get this the wrong way around.

*Can I just add (off topic) I hate the common saying of Beau - Kay for "bouquet" there's even a florist near me called something like "Bo-K" Grr! At least Hyacinth gets this right.

You'd think the guest would tell them how to pronounce the ruddy name right wouldn't you? They seem to have a similar problem with Ken Paves/Parvez/Paveys too :giggle:
