Facial Cleansers

No need to set the alarm here, I could just wait till the seagull that is nesting on my next door neighbour's roof wakes me up every day at 4 am making a horrendous noise for hours. Although putting on moisturizer is not in my mind - heading outside with a blunderbuss is!

We live miles and miles from the sea but have a nest close by. The noise, as you say, is horrendous. My next door neighbour feeds them - and she has two Yorkies running around in the garden! I don't think she's seen the bad press recently (or thinks because she's "nice" to them they won't attack). I'm terrified of them as they swoop down over my head when I'm hanging washing out (then pulling it back in to re-wash because the bloody awful things have sh*t all over it :mysmilie_51.

I'm hoping to move to Bexhill-on-sea shortly (though having loads of problems with multiple purchases falling through). I have already had one near miss on a visit there. No doubt a matter of time before I get a direct hit. Perhaps I should carry teatree wipes in my handbag at all times

When I am hanging out the washing I keep my eye on the seagull as much as I can, it is a bit disconcerting when it takes off and flies overhead whilst you are out there. I live a couple of miles from the sea too, and the seagulls weren't here a few years ago, but now there are a fair few of them. Sorry to hear your neighbour feeds them - there have been too many stories in the press recently about them - I certainly wouldn't.

I am sure they can detect this because they always seem to land near me on the street rather than any of my friends if we are walking along or sitting outside a pub etc.. If one of those manic seagulls came near me I would probably have a heart attack.

One hotel in Germany kept a parrot in reception and I had to be escorted straight through to the lift whilst my friend went back for my key! And do not get me started on the peacock at one place which wandered through the ground floor reception and dining areas. Dear God!

I used to use the Decleor cleanser but, when I ran out, I started using Garnier micellar water. My skin has never looked better ............. presumably because it's been deep cleaned. :wink:

I used to use A'kin creamy Geranium cleanser and you can use this to take off makeup of an evening with a warm flannel or use it in the morning as a facial wash. However, I am now using Philosophy 3 in 1 cleanser (massive large one with pump) as this had excellent reviews and worked out better value for money.

Ultrasun SPF30 face from March to October then back onto Judith Williams moisturiser. Of a night, I use a facial oil - AD Synergy

Good morning ladies & gents.

Could I have your recommendations for a cleanser from the QVC ranges that would suit me. I'm nearly 60, my skin has no problems other than the age-related slackness and odd thread vein on my nose. It's quite dry though so I've been using an oil cleanser by L'Occitane but it makes my skin feel tight which really surprised me as I assumed an oil would be kind to the skin.

I prefer a wash-off cleanser and it doesn't have to remove eye make-up as I use a separate product for eyes.

I like Cleanse and Polish tried other brands but this is my favourite.

This is exactly the same as me, I have been afraid of birds all my life.

Perhaps Qvc could use this in their 'dreaded high street' avoidance spiel.

We were in Blackpool for a Neil Diamond concert on Thursday and the bl**dy seagulls were a right pain in the backside. We had time to kill before the concert so we walked along the sea front and the seagulls are so hard faced they sit literally inches from people and some of them are massive. I`m not scared of birds but I reckon a full sized seagull could do some serious damage if it dive bombed you.
I recall walking through our local town hall square when my youngest son was about 4 and a pigeon pooped and it splattered onto his head, down his face and onto his T shirt. He burst into tears and I`d to wash him in the ladies loo and buy him a new T shirt. To a small child it was an awful lot of pigeon poop !

When we were in Clearwater on holiday a pelican pooped on our windscreen - dear God, I've never seen so much crap come out of a single beastie. It was horrific, fortunately we were in slow moving traffic.
I'm using Decleor's aromessence cleanser with a warm flannel, M&S's pure hot cloth cleanser and Garnier micellar water but not all at the same time :mysmilie_19:

Liz Earle is very good and gentle on the skin. I've also tried a couple of 'sensitive creams' from Boots and found them just as good and a lot cheaper!! For many years I used a warm face cloth and it's done my face no harm at all! :happy:

I have uber sensitive, easily irritated skin, which can react to a product one day, and be okay with it the next. Moringa balm (Emma Hardie), is so efficacious. Elemis Pro Radiance Cream Cleansr, is so kind to my skin.
By the way - you don't have to tell- are you really "Eric's Mum"?

I use the Elemis Pro Radiance Cream Cleanser but the new one with "botanicals" in made an absolute mess of my face. It almost stripped my skin. I won't be using that again. I also like the Elemis Balm. From time to time I use Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish.

Pro Radiance left me with small red bumps over cheeks and really reactive when I was already sensitive. Avene did not help, do like La Roche Posay but have to be careful so stick with my trusty Garnier.

It's always a good idea to patch test anything new before using it on your face. After all, you really can't hide a nasty reaction very easily.

If you can patch test as close to your face as possible, that's better than somewhere like the wrist or inner forearm. The neck, below the ear is probably close enough.

It's not even as simple as saying just use unperfumed stuff, when you have a reaction to something. It may be the perfumes or essential oils that trigger a reaction, or it could be another ingredient which is your issue. I've a friend who can't use anything with oats in it, despite oats being generally soothing, as she gets the most dreadful hives.

It's definitely worth bearing in mind that if you react to certain foods you eat, extracts of the same could well be a trigger for you when applied on the skin.

It's also worth considering the combinations you are using on your skin - a component of one product may cause a reaction when a component in another product is present.

I find I get good relief from using Clarins Skin Beauty repair concentrate - it's a titchy bottle of serum, but you only need a little, so it does last well. I will often only combine it with Decleor Prolagene gel when I have sore, irritated skin.

I recounted some of the seagull woes here to OH. He looked a bit sheepish then told me he didn't like to say, as I'm scared enough as it is, but the seagulls that hang around where he works are rabid. Apparently, when they cooked a turkey just before Christmas, someone tossed the carcass outside the rear door. Within minutes it was fought over, stripped and disappeared! I think they were all shocked (most live inland, like us), except the guy who lived close by and was used to the "rats with wings" tearing rubbish bags apart. Real rats don't get a look in.

I think I'd rather face land rats than flying rats!

I forgot to say in my OP that I've just started using Alpha H Liquid Gold and I think I'm seeing results. Some of you have recommended their cleanser and exfoliant so that's where I'm going to start.

Eric is my cat not offspring - not sure I'd name my child after my favourite but ageing rockstar, all-time greatest guitar player ! I've added his pic as my avatar now. He's 17+ and a little sweetie.
