Just caught Dawbags on the bareminerals show decrying all those other powder make ups that are "full of talc".

Hasn't anyone told her that talcum is itself a mineral?

Another puzzle, if mineral oil is supposedly so bad for your skin, why is mineral in powder form so good?

I'm having problems with dry skin at the moment and doctors orders are to use an emollient cream. The medical profession dont seem concerned about me slapping copious amounts of paraffin based cream on my face so why is Gobby so bothered? (I do know the answer to that question of course!).

It's all a load of crap.

Now I have really dry skin so I can pontificate. For many the paraffin and other mineral based won't help as it is more a barrier than an emollient due to the size of the molecules, so if your skin is suffering due to evaporation they're fine. To compensate for a lack of sebum being produced then you need to look for something more like our own skin oil. I don't get on with petrochemicals after a few days but doublebase is da bomb if you're looking for something really effective but not gross.

Yep, discovered double base a couple of weeks ago. It's helping. I assumed it was petrochemicals aswell.

If your skin is really chapped which means flipping sore :mysmilie_512: then super refined lanolin which Gobby would faint over could be a perfect answer. It is extremely effective and only needs a dab once or twice a day.

The catch is that the miracle is a nipple balm for nursing mothers called Lansinoh and nothing else will do.

Don't say I don't look after this bear even if he hasn't a label with those words on him like Paddington.

you are indeed a goddess....... of darkness.

er, i'll give the nipple balm a miss i think? i'm using the doublebase as a face wash which leaves a film of protection, then i'm using Aveeno on top. I'm wondering if this is it for the rest of my life now. i never had a problem until 6 months ago. maybe i'm going though a JR style trauma where i just react with EVERYthing. how spooky, yet apt that i should mirror my fave presenters unhappy condition.

i balked a bit at the £10 for the DB gel but discovered its brillaint for shaving. so i can stop buying 15ml rip off shave oils for a fiver a go which lasted about 5 minutes.

My favourite hand and elbow grease is a cream that comes in a delightful cow-print tube and was originally formulated for sore cow udders. There is a similar product out there called Udderly Smooth. *g*

Well if you ever do run into a problem t'internet doesn't care that you're not a nursing mammy and will send Mr M Burlybear a tube. I would go the other way around with aveeno first as the db is occlusive. Anyway I hope it's a very temporary blip for you and your furry face recovers soon.

Something that worked absolute magic on my psoriasis was zinc without the castor oil. Chemists should still sell it, I paid 50p allbeit a good few years ago. This worked after peeling myself off the ceiling after trying traditional prescription gloop that turned my already sore patches into the flames of Hell! Hope this helps someone if not you BB.

Should anyone be allergic to lanolin, a miracle which prevents skin on heels from becoming like elephant hide and splitting is called CCS cream, works on elbows and knees too and is available at Boots and other retail chemists.

My mum used to call it zinc ointment and she got it from the chemist. Its thick, almost solid whereas zinc and castor oil is more runny. (I use the latter on my babies bottoms...)

Double base is a better product for most than diprobase as it has two components rather than just paraffin.

I would warn anyone to be very cautious with e45 products. They're big sellers but can be evil with respect to reactions.

Lanolin is a killer for me too, so is aloe vera (no LE for me :clapping:), when she cut open the plant my skin literally crawled at the memory of soreness.

Burlz ... I went through a phase of being unable to use anything other than Doublebase. It lasted for around 18 months total, although for the last few montgs it sort of got better and worse again. Anyway that must be a good two years ago and I am back to being able to use anything and everything.

And if Doublebase works for you I really wouldn't bother trying anything else right now. It's just not worth it.

I love the weird texture of the stuff. It's jelly like in it's natural state but shake it up and it's a gel/cream.

I hope it all calms down for you pretty quickly Burlz.

Sudocrem , available from all chemists, is very good for calming irritated skin. It's particularly good for nappy rash but I'm assuming you don't suffer from that. Hope you find an effective product soon.

I've tried Sudocrem on my face Gem and it can sting, the lavendar in it possibly. As BB has soreness on his face I would proceed with caution with this one, very small patch test BB.

Maybe it's just suitable for bums Liam!
