Thanks SB - maybe flannel sheets and an electric blanket too!

Still no word from British Gas :mysmilie_503:
Yes definately flannel sheets, still have mine on and love them. Thats awful no word from British Gas, can you not hurry them up and complain somewhere to someone. Awful in this weather

At least it's not quite as cold as the other week SB and as an added bonus there's no snow on the ground !
Yes DD, but when i was out shopping on Saturday in Banridge, it was freezing and snowflakes started to fall, looked lovely , and then it stopped after a while. Think its on the way out now, with the clocks going forward soon.:clapping:

Hey! The like button is back. Here I am, late to the party as usual. I have been out all morning attending an interview for a training course. The know the economy is not in tip top shape, when you have to be interviewed for a course at my age!

Anyway, its so good to see you Meg, we missed you. I hope the disruption at home has not made you grumpy. It won't last forever, unless your Mammy decides to do every room - then I suggest you enquire about prices in PussKats B & B. Carol, hope you feel better soon.

Disenchanted!
Oh NO! Poor you. I don't do 'cold' so yes, it is warm here and there's an electric blanket in the airing cupboard.

London to me is about 2 hours 50 mins.
Shall I put the kettle on or will you partake of something a bit stronger?

What's the training course about Itchy?

Um, downstairs loo is next on the agenda .....

My course (If I get a place) is a FETAC Level 5 in childcare. I have worked in the industry for a few years, but without the qualification. I lost my job last year and because regulations have changed, I will not get another one working with children without the qualification - I think it is the equivalent of a City and Guilds one over there. If I don't get working soon, we will end up on the streets, so it has to be done. They are letting me know in the next day or so. Fingers crossed.

PS, I have had police and social services clearance for 12 years, just not the childcare certification

£850 !!! :mysmilie_13:

I've posted this before but my sister lives in a small village without gas so rely's on oil for heating etc. A couple of years ago they joined a cooperative set up by one of the villagers who two or three times a year checks which members needs oil and how much, tots it all up then negotiates a much better bulk litre price for all of it with a supplier, they use a larger tanker to deliver the required amount to each member all on the same day, the company then bills each household separately for the amount that's been delivered, you might find it worth seeing if there's an existing group near you or if not consider starting your own up it's has saved them a small fortune!

i'm signed up to boiler juice which more or less does the same thing - and then takes their cut of course. they email when someone else in the area has ordered. the main problem is, most people like to fill up when empty so everyone needs oil at different times. also, all the while i'm so unsettled living here, i don't want to get involved with anything long term and i can't see the neighbours here being interested tbh. there is zero community where i live. the price of oil goes up and down constantly and i do keep an eye on it but unfortunately always seem to end up ordering when it's on a high. i did find a very good service engineer via boiler juice though.

everything about oil heating is a pain - the cost, the delivery, the tank, it stinks (literally) lol, the risk of theft, a specialised boiler which is excluded from home emergency cover plans, etc, etc. but if no gas, it's the best option.

We've oil also janie, and it ran out on Christmas Eve, unexpected, as it wasn't that long ago we'd bought it. Nightmare.

Trying to be careful with it, as OH bought it, and trying to make this lot last , save the yapping lol.

Oh good luck Itchy, hope you get the course, everything crossed xx

eek! it wasn't stolen was it barbs? my service guy said it's very common, especially now it's so expensive. at least he did say it doesn't damage the boiler if you run completely out. i was worried it dragged the gunk through from the bottom of the tank. mind you, it wasn't till i had a leak i realised it was 'spirity' rather than 'oily'. i once asked the delivery man if it's worth getting a lock for the lid and he said "you don't think they come with bolt cutters?"

i haven't had gas for so long i'm out of touch with the cost. my oil lasts around 13-14 months (and it's been on 24/7 since louis became ill) so i suppose it's not too bad apart from the initial outlay? when i was working and it was on a timer, it lasted about 14-15 months.
