Alf is such a lazy bugger that if I start brushing him he manoeuvres himself round so I can do all the difficult bits. Stretches his paws out so I can get the knots out of armpits etc.

On the other hand if I get one swish of the brush or comb along Harve's back I'm quite proud of myself. If he sees me with the comb he gives me a really wide berth and speeds up into he's out of reach. If I persist he hides under a chair. If I persist at getting him when he's under the chair, he's out the door!!

That sounds by far the best idea to me Min! It takes both of us to apply Frontline to Jess..she is a big jessie, they gave her the right name I think!

I kid you not with this story!

Many years ago my cousin in Canada had a beautiful white "cat from hell". He use to have to wear gauntlets and a bee-keeper type hat with veil to get her into a cat basket. The vets, dressed likewise, wouldn't have her in the surgery and used to treat her in the car! Looked like a major chemical incident going on mol!

Some of the stories were hilarious, in the house she was as good as gold...bless. :mysmilie_515::angel:


PS Millie can only be flea and worm treated at the vet, I can't get near her on my own!

My first cat was like that Frazzled. He'd be sat in his carry basket facing the wall in the surgery and if any other creature was too near the spittle came flying out of the back of the basket. The noise he made was blood curdling. By the time we got to see the vet he was ready..... and he drew blood on more than one occasion.
To put his collar on we'd have to wrap him in a bath towel.

I got the vet to help me with the flea drops on Alf last time. He's not the problem. It's finding skin! You need both hands to pin him down and pull the fur right back to see a whisper of skin. Then you need another hand to squirt the stuff with.

after one too many traumatic waiting episodes in the vet with louis bouncing the carrier round the waiting room along with blood curdling growls - 99% of the time due to dog owners who think it's funny to let their dogs go right up to the trapped cat and sniff it - i now have an arrangement with the vet where i wait in the car and he comes and gets us when he's ready. much better for louis' nerves and mine

What a good idea Janie, it seems no matter what time appointment I have I always have to wait at least 15-20 minutes which is a long time when you have a cat who's terrified of visiting the vet!

DD - yep, mine tends to run late because he takes all the time he needs and never rushes anyone. it also takes quite a while waiting for the bill to come through to reception while he's typing it into the computer in the surgery, so i put him back in the car for that too, then go back in and pay. when i'm waiting to go in, i sit and watch the door the whole time so the second i see the vet, i jump out so he doesn't have to wander round the car park.

Our surgery has started a 'Cat's Only' evening surgery once a week.
It's great.

The flea drops just did not work on Meg. She has a convenient bald patch in the right place which the vet thought was very considerate of her so the fur was not an issue.
But then, Meg does like to be different lol

My vet has separate areas for cats and dogs. Other animals can take their pick. It dies help though. Luckily they usually run pretty much to time so we're never made to wait to long.

We usually have to wait ****** ages at the heart specialist but they rarely get cats in so we get put in a spare room so Alf doesn't get scared. We don't want his heart racing just before he has his tests.

i was interested in meg's flea collar min. dylan used to wear one but it made a complete bald ring round his neck - killed the hair follicles so it never grew back. that was when i switched to various spot-ons before frontline cornered the market. then when that stopped working, we started using the program injection which works a treat. louis can't have it at the moment so when i'm forced to, i'll use frontline and hope for the best. it's great for ticks so he has to be frontlined as well as programmed anyway.

That's a good idea to have separate surgeries/areas for cats and dogs, would help make it less stressful for them.

Millie's coming with me for Jaspers final check-up on Monday to be flea treated etc. Jasper's very good but it's not easy parting the fur on your own.

I worry to much about collars, the injuries can be horrific if they get caught up in them. I know they have a stretchy bit, but it can still happen.

Can't remember what the vet used, all I know was that we had a flea invasion. Meg wouldn't even come in the house.
Perhaps I should try again. When we took the last collar off, her fur looked sparse around her neck. I put it down to friction.
Will have a closer look when we put the new collar on.

Don't tell her that's the plan though ... will you
