I'm underwhelmed by the Ordinary range, I was looking forward to Retinoid 2% but it dried out my skin terribly and it's still recovering a month later.
Looking forward to hear about the new products though.

What a very strange name for a beauty company. Very off-putting in my opinion. 'Abnormal Beauty'

It is an umbrella company. They don't sell any beauty branded as Abnormal Beauty. At least not yet!

QVC are possibly using it because the show features more than one Deciem brand.

I'll be interested to see what price The Ordinary TSV will be set at. I fancy trying one or two things, which they are currently selling in Fenwicks Brent Cross.

I like some of The Ordinary's products (bought from Victoria Health). They're cheap no fuss ingredients - mostly around a fiver - so I guess Q would have to bundle them together in whacky ways in order to hike the price to make it worth its while.

i dont think it will be that range it might be the other ranges they do that might be getting trialed on Q before having their own hours but do feel NIOD will feature a lot

You can order The Ordinary from ASOS - free delivery if you've paid for ASOS premiere delivery (£9.95 per annum) you can order as little or much as you like with next day delivery. Here

i was considering doing that as i like some of the ASOS tops & that but i just couldnt justify it with how little i buy but the price for £9.95 for a whole year is a good idea

Compared with the likes of QVC I justify it by thinking it's less than 3 x £3.95 deliveries. There is a downside- my daughter orders things saying "I'm just using your next day on Asos, Mum" but then I have to remind her to pay me for the things she keeps! But there have been times when I've needed a birthday present quickly and they've never failed to deliver the next day. Plus if you have a friend who's a student you can wangle a 10% student discount...it didn't quite pat for my son doing 4 years at Uni, but it didn't seem to matter that the account is in my name, probably because he was still technically at the same address. I've had a few sale bargains, nearly bought a Lulu Guinness bag but dithered for too long, but I did buy a couple of Aubrey bags at 80% off when the company folded (the brand was on QVC for a while)

I'm not on commission honest! To be fair, you'll get free p&p if you spend £20+ so if your basket is around £17 you might as well add a cheapy couple of pounds item to you basket to qualify for free standard postage.

I don't buy many clothes for me but they sell a range of beauty brands so I recently ordered The Ordinary's 2 different primers to try myself, plus my daughter is writing a blog review of primers at the moment (unlike some Bloggers she rarely gets freebies, but she does write frank and honest reviews!)

I really like Asos. I have always got free delivery with them, and the stuff often arrives the next day. From a customer perspective the free returns are great, too, although I gather that the number of staff required to process the volume of returns they receive is stretching these companies to the limit. Know just what you mean about how handy it is for last minute gifts to have a free next day delivery option, as we've got Amazon Prime.

How exciting that your daughter is a beauty blogger! Is it just a hobby? I'm fascinated by the world of blogging, and all the revenue streams available, as - on paper - it would be my dream job, combining my two loves of writing and beauty. However, I think you've got to be thick skinned to put yourself out there, and the success of most blogs depend on the public's ability to gel with you as a person. I would say that Jane Cunningham is the notable exception, as her blog is very product focussed, and she doesn't include much personal information, but I think she is quite unique in that she really goes above and beyond to provide the most accurate information she can, and - by her own admission - hates being schmoozed by brands. I think, as a general rule, (again, British Beauty Blogger being the exception), that the more infrequent the updates, the better quality the content. Know she's a writer, not a blogger, but Sali Hughes in the Bathrooms are normally well worth waiting for (I'm erasing the Rosie Huntington Whitely in a hotel solely plugging her M&S range from the archives!) Found the one with Morag Ross fascinating, and really enjoyed the Sam McKnight one, too. Always read her Guardian / The Pool columns, as well.

I love Lisa Eldridge's YouTube channel, she's a magician as far as I'm concerned! :mysmilie_467: Read Caroline Hirons and Ruth Crilly's blogs, and watch Pixiwoo's weekly videos. I'm considerably less interested in the "lifestyle" ones, that show you what clothes they've just bought, what free holidays they've just been on, what they eat in a day :)dull:) etc, and lose the will to live with those that go into rambling introspective diatribes about their personal lives - stay on topic! I find some of the most popular ones so annoying that I can't understand how they've become so successful, but different personalities will obviously appeal to different people. I don't count the QVC ones as proper bloggers. I'm assuming they have day jobs and are just in it for the freebies? The brands are laughing, as sending out X number of free kits must cost them a fraction of the advertising budget they would have required to garner similar coverage in the past. Anyway, could talk about this subject forever, so will shut up now! :mysmilie_11:

Off the Deciem topic...

Hi Minx, it's just a hobby for her, she's only in her 20s but fully trained as a make up artist (specializing in film special effects), but since she's been working for the Body Shop as a make up expert she's now their social media person for the South coast and applied all the make up for the BS's International Women's Day live panel discussion on facebook last month (I was a bit disappointed that she hadn't made any of the panel members look like Zombies or werewolves). So the work thing is just in-house comparing BS make up with the competition (I think I can't view it), but her own blog is mainly about the things she's bought - to appeal to others her age. That said she was sent £100s worth of anti-aging products (why?) and emailed them to say she couldn't really review them and offered to return the products but she didn't have to. She's also been invited to a couple of blogger events run by Revolution make up and had a couple of their lovely palettes in her goody bag; then another blogger event gave away tea bags from a niche tea brand??? She doesn't even drink PG Tips! So I do better from her freebies than she does so far! It's just a hobby but it'll be something extra to add to her CV.

I think to run a blog as a business is getting tougher because so many folk are doing it now. The freebies are nice but I suspect an income stream would come from advertising revenue which needs a high and consistent traffic to your blog. Almost daily posts or vlogs to keep readers from drifting to other sites. Minx I'll PM you her blog address so you can have a look at my daughter's blog.

Thanks Akimbo - have replied. :) Working in TV and film make-up would be amazing! She's an aspiring Morag Ross. :) Her blog / Instagram accounts probably helped her get the social media role, too. That is ridiculous sending someone of her age anti-ageing products, read a very interesting article the other day on the growing number of Twenty-somethings wrecking their glowing, young skin by using retinoids to address issues that they don't yet have!

I agree that it must be getting harder to get yourself noticed as a blogger, when there is now so much competition. Some of the younger bloggers may have way more followers than the older ones, but - crucially - their target audience haven't got the disposable income of those targeting the 40+ market. I think the main revenue streams are advertising, commission on purchases made through affiliated links, consultancy work, product collaborations / own product ranges, other commercial ventures such as books, DVD's etc, personal appearances / invitations to speak at events etc - all of which, as you say, require you to have a big following.

If you go to the 5 pc set of The Ordinary products there's a link to a list of ingredients, which says what the 5 products are:

Buffet
Advanced Retinoid 2%
Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
Natural Moisturising Complex + HA
Caffeine Gel 5% + EGCG
