Thanks, everyone, for all the very useful information on using different sizes of washing machine for bulky bedding. You can always rely on this forum for help. I think a 10kg is the way to go - 11kg might be a bit too far.

(What happened to that carefree girl who never gave a second thought to laundry? Now I get a thrill from investigating washing machines and discussing the pros and cons online!! 😊)
Well, fair dos, when you’ve no more room in the cupboards for any more Molton Brown, gotta find summat else to spend the cash on…….

😂 😂 Don’t believe everything that’s said about me on here. There are some who suggest I can’t help myself and I overstock on certain things but I do really have good control over my purchases. I haven’t spent anything at all today, for example, and we’re well into the afternoon.

Actually, speaking of full cupboards and washing, my tumble dryer, which I am not using at the moment, is currently in use as a detergent store! 🤣🤣🤣

On a side note to the washing machine thoughts, my local Morissons has an area outside with washing machines and tumble dryers avaliable to hire.
I haven't taken a lot of notice of what's available but did see some of the capacities stated and they were 9kg and 20kg presumably dry weight?
I don't have any idea re prices but several were in use at the time.

I think my washing machine has a 7kg drum but I can wash a CH duvet cover, fitted sheet and pillowcase with no problem. I also pop other smaller things in with them at the same time.

I did order one of the CH filled bedspreads a couple of years ago but sent that straight back because there was no way it would fit inside the drum.

A quick update to my previous post.
I went to my local Morissons earlier on and can now say the self service outdoor washing machines and dryers are operated by a company called Wash.ME who have a website with lots of information.
Prices where I am are approx £5.50 for 9kg and £11.00 for 20kg. Detergent is included in the price, and there are other options like softener which are extras.
The dryers charge by 15 minute periods probably about £4.50 a period.
They say there are around 900 operating in the UK so probably one near you as long as your not really remote.

Well I never! Great idea having a 20kg so you don't need to go to the dry cleaners for large items that are machine washable.

Thank you, candycane. I will investigate further but that is really helpful for practical advice from someone who has a bit of experience. I agree that Debra should mention the issue, too.

We're in the sticks and there's one of these in Kelso which is about 8 miles from me. My caravan neighbour uses it all the time. I haven't used them but the driers would be very useful for me to dry my bedding things. My house looks like a Chinese laundry in the winter and it pees me off.
