All this talk about bragging has reminded me of a dinner party I went to last year. This woman who was sitting near me said when was 40 her husband took her to Tiffany's in New York and bought her the lovely bracelet she was wearing. Well actually she couldn't make up her mind so they flew home and then she regreted not buying it so he ordered it in the uk and it was sent in time for for her birthday. I've just had a look at the Tiffany's web site and found a similar bracelet priced at just a tad over $14,000. Its just horses for courses.

There still are many, many, many people with spare cash to do with what they want and if they want to talk about it so what :sun:. I think it's good for the economy if people flash their wealth.

Well, that was certainly fab for the US economy!

The price doesn't equate to the real value. I am lucky enough to own a Tiffany bracelet but it certainly wasn't that kind of money but even so I have other bracelets I prefer and that hold a higher value to me personally. I'm wearing a silver bamboo style bracelet today that I inherited from my godmother It's old but not antique and it's worth more to me than any bracelet Tiffany could ever sell. But it wouldn't hold the same value to anyone else.

Horses for courses as you say. If someone else can afford things I can't then so be it.

By and large I think the presenters do a good enough job - they have to sell to both ends of the spectrum, rich AND poor, it's no good them talking to the audience as tho they're all hard up - there must be plenty watching who are reasonably well off judging by the prices some of the jewellery was going at, I saw something at around £1500 even on Clearance...! For that kind of money I'd be wanting a three piece ****** suite!

Oh that'll be why one minute they plead proverty, can't afford stuff and making cut backs like everyone at there.
Then the next they are boasting about their villa aboard and a 10 grand holiday they have booked.
We must keep buying it helps keep them in their QVC lifestyle

sorry I meant the audience all being hard up, not the presenters themselves!

I must admit I have never heard any of the presenters pleading poverty and I think it would be in bad taste if they did. I know they are more tuned into the economy of today by stating that some of the stuff is a considered purchase probably more now then they used to. As for mentioning villas they own and holidays etc most of that I would assume is to fill in air time and as for me I don't mind as I am nosey and like to know what my hard earned money is paying for.:giggle:

Don't get me wrong I don't mind hearing about what hols, homes aboard etc etc breaks up the hard sell.
What I object is the trying to endear themselves to the viewer by saying such as I can't afford this / that, turning off heating and having to curb spending etc.
Then the next they are off to the villa they have just bought and a holiday costing an amount that most families would spend on their yearly holiday for 20 years.
Perhaps they get carried away and don't recall just what they previously said in the pressure of trying to make sales.

I bet its lovely.:sun: Yes, sentimental things are worth so much more.

I agree.

To me she seems to be a really nice woman and I'm sure she would make a very good friend if you were in her circle.

It wouldn't do her any good to be boasting, I'm sure she wasn't, just chatting away (got to fill up the air time some how, can't just sit there with nothing to say after all).

And... I like her hair as well - so there !!! !!

whether that's true or not, its exactly what QVC want to hear. a little more cynicism may be in order London. claire sutton is just trying to get in your purse.
