Boo, I wanted one of the padded coats that QVC are usually overrun with at this time of year. Might have a look at this though I doubt it will be warm enough for me.

I've been looking for a proper "coat" coat, so will be keen to see this.
However, suspect I'll be disappointed.

As its single breasted that should mean it has buttons so will do up. Mind you it probably won’t be shown done up as they usually put the models in a size or two too small.

I'm looking for a winter coat.

A few years ago I bought one from Centigrade which was warm but not shower proof.
I'd get into work with my clothes damp.

I hate umbrellas because they inevitably break so have done without one for years.

Upon reading reviews (on Q) coats touted as shower/rain/water proof are nothing of the sort and so the search continues...

The time to buy a winter coat is June or July, and the place to buy from which I've mentioned before, is Land's End. (£60 in June is now £170-240). I've had coats from them for about ten years now and am still wearing them. Warm, winter weight and [properly waterproof. Currently though, I'm in a Centigrade jacket that I bought a couple of years ago in summer, also reduced but to under £30, but I'll soon be going into my Land's End winter gear. A friend who bought a waterproof Barbour jacket ended up soaked to the skin and he paid silly money for it.

I’ve bought mine from Cotton Traders and North Face n the past. Look for the ones with sealed seams. I always buy those with a hood as it’s difficult to hold an umbrella when you use two walking sticks.

I was looking at ordering a winter coat this year, but luckily I’d hung on to a couple of coats that I’d hardly worn, just incase I lost weight. I’ve now lost 3 and a half stone since February (by eating healthily and having nothing like crisps, biscuits, sweets, chocolate, cakes etc - and I don’t miss them) and so I now have two “new” warm coats for this winter.

I got an Aigle winter coat - it's not posh or smart, it's a dog walking/outdoor coat - believe it or not from the garden centre. It was £100 but had been reduced from about £250. It's quilted and the top half is furry lined and it definitely keeps the rain out. No problem putting it in the washing machine either.

I saw Katy P modelling a coat last week and (wait for it) it had no buttons!!!! Edge to edge. What is the point of a winter coat that doesn't do up?? It wasn't cheap either.

Edit to say my mum has a hardly worn coat just like this in red that she said I could have last time I was down there so no need for me to even think about this.

The description says that they are a relaxed fit. I don’t think so as they haven’t got a cat’s chance i n Hades. Of buttoning up on the models. Why don’t they put them in the correct size. I can understand why Jilly hasn’t because it’d mess with her microphone but no excuse for the stylists not dressing the models.

What’s the point of Glen Campball saying it’ll keep you nice and warm if it doesn’t effing well do up?

How are we supposed to see how it fits or looks? Totally agree. The models kept clutching at the front to pull it together.

Also, a model wearing a sweater - Denim & Co - in the same hour had long, raggy hair splaying out over front and back so you couldn't see the neckline. Stupid. Her hair needed a real good trim, too, to counteract the wispiness. If the customer can see it, why can't the "stylist"?

The last thing I need is another winter coat, but I wouldn’t go for the SB style of this Centigrade one. If it is wool / wool mix it needs to be good quality otherwise it can be like cardboard (IMO!).I like Landsend, always wait for the price reductions.They are seriously warm, as some padded coats look the part but if they haven’t got the right filling they don’t keep you warm.I think the edge to edge one on QVC was Helene Berman? The one she called ‘clutch’ (I think) as you had o hold the front edges together, as if!

Has one been shown buttoned up? If it was I think it would be quite restricting.

How do you manage to hold it together if you’ve got bags of shopping, small children, pushing a pram or using a walking stick. Honestly QVC get real.

When I started work in 1974 Mum told me to buy a good quality wool coat. She was right - 2 lasted me 16 years until they started to show ‘wear’ in places. £150 was a lot to pay in those days but I got my money’s worth.
