It's not "hatred" towards a shopping channel at all. Personally I think that if a presenter wants to degrade themselves like that on TV it's hilarious to watch. There are posts on here where articulate, intelligent people have found themselves spending literally £1000's on stuff they wish with hindsight they hadn't by their own admission on shopping TV. 100% it's everyone's own choice to buy or not. I just feel that QVC has recently sunk to new depths of getting sales at any length. You only have to read numerous threads on here.
Oh & in answer to your question not everyone who is mentally or emotionally vulnerable has an entourage of people caring for them. Aiming for people who are perhaps not the brightest & suggesting presents for the very ill is cheap & immoral in my book, end of! (We're all entitled to our opinion).
"... sunk to new depths of getting sales at any length" - what new depths are those? Snatch squads at 3am? Gun to head? Really, I am interested to hear about how 'low' QVC has stooped to get people to buy.
It is NOT QVC's job to check if a buyer is competent or can afford the items they are selling - they are just there to provide the goods, take the money and make a profit.... and that is just the same for every other retailer in the land - even John Lewis.
As to pressies for the very ill, why is that such a bad suggestion? It's not expoitative or immoral at all. If you know the person would appreciate the sentiment then great... my mum was given a soft toy when she was dying - a young relative wanted her to have something to cuddle in the night - it meant a lot to her because it was given with love...
QVC is there to do one thing and one thing only... to sell.
