Are the people selling these stuffed toys all there?

It's not "hatred" towards a shopping channel at all. Personally I think that if a presenter wants to degrade themselves like that on TV it's hilarious to watch. There are posts on here where articulate, intelligent people have found themselves spending literally £1000's on stuff they wish with hindsight they hadn't by their own admission on shopping TV. 100% it's everyone's own choice to buy or not. I just feel that QVC has recently sunk to new depths of getting sales at any length. You only have to read numerous threads on here.
Oh & in answer to your question not everyone who is mentally or emotionally vulnerable has an entourage of people caring for them. Aiming for people who are perhaps not the brightest & suggesting presents for the very ill is cheap & immoral in my book, end of! (We're all entitled to our opinion).

"... sunk to new depths of getting sales at any length" - what new depths are those? Snatch squads at 3am? Gun to head? Really, I am interested to hear about how 'low' QVC has stooped to get people to buy.

It is NOT QVC's job to check if a buyer is competent or can afford the items they are selling - they are just there to provide the goods, take the money and make a profit.... and that is just the same for every other retailer in the land - even John Lewis.

As to pressies for the very ill, why is that such a bad suggestion? It's not expoitative or immoral at all. If you know the person would appreciate the sentiment then great... my mum was given a soft toy when she was dying - a young relative wanted her to have something to cuddle in the night - it meant a lot to her because it was given with love...

QVC is there to do one thing and one thing only... to sell.

It really is mind boggling. There is some really strange people out there who must be so lonely they go to the extremes of talking and caring for stuffed fabric like it were real. Truly bizarre :wonder:

There will always be people who overspend whether it be at Q, Debenhams, the bingo, lottery tickets or online shopping. The difference is an online site such as Amazon don`t have live people plugging the items in your face time and time again, neither do most department stores who might have the odd sales person around the floor but they`re usually manning tills at the same time. A problem is a problem no matter how its caused or how it manifests itself and getting people to recognise they actually have a problem and seek help for it is the main thing.
As for the cuddly toy/teddy bear thing, to each their own. I hate them but other people like them and you don`t have to have learning difficulties or be a vulnerable person to like or dislike them or get into money troubles. The hard sell is what Q do and most of us have the discipline not to fall for it too often but there`ll always be those people who fall time and time again. God loves a tryer and that`s what Q specialise in, trying to separate you from your money. My TV has an off button, I use it regularly. My brain also has an off button when I hear the hard sell it switches off too. The presenters are just people paid to do a job and the more they push, then the less I listen. There`ll always be people who`ll think otherwise though.

Blimey, I thought this is a shopping telly forum not a dictatorship! Tiddlywinks were you a member of the team responsible for putting that bear "show" out? lol This all started off by me starting a thread as I thought the presenting of bears on QVC was so nausiating & patronising it was hilarious to watch in an Eldorado kind of way. I do think that if anyone thinks they're buying off "friends" or a highly respectable retailer when they buy from some retailers & presenters on QVC think again! Once they've had all they can off someone they'll move on to to the next. So actually Tiddlywinks we're not that far apart in our views, I just don't agree with their methods of selling. Not all retailers or presenters on there are like that but some are.

Do you think some of you might be better served using the 'off' switch? Just wondering …
Totally agree! There are many and varied items and presenters on QVC, which we all love or hate due to personal taste. If you don't like whats on, switch off or over, Simples!

It wasn't reading the comments about the presentation styles that troubled me... it was more the suggestions that QVC preys on the vulnerable that i found so shocking.

QVC is an online retailer so is it any surprise that they use whatever sales technique is most likely to work with a particular product?

Yeh & I may need to get the vomit bucket out apparently if I see Charlie presenting them lol! It's only a bit of funny banter at the end of the day. Some shows are so dreadful they they're the best comedy all eve, that was one of them!
