While I will admit to it being a good looking piece of kit, to not have an sdhc card slot is unforgivable...8gb of storage is not a huge amount these days, and considering you can get something like a Sansa Fuze (with card slot) for £15 cheaper http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0019JOD68/?tag=shoppingcom03-21 it seems like you are just paying a premium for the 3" touchscreen.

It is still one of the nicer smaller players that Archos have done though, looks like they have carried the styling over from the Archos 5 design..:nod:

I suppose it really comes down to a case of style over storage really...:tongue2:

I wouldn't be disappointed with it - it doesn't need connecting to itunes! Looks interesting though but for me, my phone is a little better in certain respects: sd card, bigger resolution but battery life isn't going to last that long compared with the Archos!

Actually deanos you CAN !

You can get a teensy wee shuffle for £31 @ Argos, even though its sound only, the new shuffle is coming in @ £59 although 4Gb only The Nano is coming in @ £106.
The fabulous I-Pod Touch is only £149 and I know what I'd rather spend my hard earned on

Btw DD is known as the I-Pod Queen at ours as she has EVERYTHING Apple in fact I bought her the I-Pod Touch when it first was launched for Christmas and it was never out of use, so much so that we bought her the 2nd Generation model whilst in Florida!

At the risk of sharing with the world just how stupid I am when it comes to anything technical, can I ask a question? If you don't want to listen to this with headphones or through the car radio, can you plug it in to speakers or a docking station? Or can you only do that with ipods?

Fair point deanos but the point Im trying to make is teens etc would rather have an Apple product than an Archos.

I personally dont have a problem with Archos, in fact OH has one and loves it, but DD would rather pluck out and eat her own eyes rather than be seen with an Archos, and she's 23!

I listened to them saying you can watch movies and TV programmes on it. Presumably these would be transferred from your computer. I need someone to explain to me how and from where you would get these from in the first place and, if you have to buy movies from a site, is it expensive to do that?

No - but Apple are high value goods with great build quality and an even better reputation - Archos are cheap and budget priced!

Put another way if you want a cheap car buy a Skoda but if you want similar but better car buy a VW.

Aren't Skoda owned by VW? So aren't you in effect buying a rebadged vw? Last time I checked a Skoda wasn't that cheap, you're a bit behind the times there.

Anyway anyone interested in buying a an archos should check out the comments on their user forum first. Similarly with Apple. I've seen complaints about Apple products as well, there is no such thing as a product with a perfect reputation.

My i-pod gave up the ghost after less than a year,will not buy another ever.I now have a Sony mp3 which is brilliant,in my youth I aways had Sony audio products which were super reliable,I never should have strayed for the all singing all dancing i-pod.

Archos is just a rebadge ipod that is why i compared Skoda to VW.

Skoda is a poor mans VW as Archos TSV is a poor mans iPod.
If you want the best buy an iPod not some copy IMHO.

Archos = no messing about with I-tunes.

Archos just uses simple drag and drop so you plug the USB into your computer and it sees it as a drive and then you just drag whatever file you want to it. It's unfussy about file formats too.

I hate it when car analogies get thrown into a discussion. Skoda are not by any means a poor mans VW consider they use the same parts as does Seat and Audi. They are targeted towards different aspirational markets. Ironically VW have done a good job in marketing making people believe a VW is good quality and justifies a premium price. Have you tried to price a similar spec Golf to a Focus? The rational argument cannot justify the difference in price but the perception makes us believe it is worth it. The Focus is the better car by the way.
Saying that the Skoda isn't exactly cheap either!
