I have used Prolagene gel around my eyes with no problem. I find it cooling and often use it as an eye mask. I don't find it enough on it's own though and use an eye cream as well.

I bought a pair of the spiked ones from Q many years ago and they have been fab. Treated myself to some new ones from Amazon last year and again would never be without them now.
