I bought these just over a year ago, in case of power cuts. Since they arrived, they've been on a sunny windowsill solar charging so they would always be available for use if required.

Today I decided to test them. Two worked but one was completely dead. I've now tried to charge them from the mains, without success so far.

It seems that the problem is a faulty on/off switch, and several other people have also had this, according to the reviews.

I've had so many "torchy" things from QVC that have failed.

All the lamps and torches that I’ve bought from QVC over the years still work with no problem. If I ever get a power cut I’ll be able to light up the house like Blackpool Illuminations. 😂 I guess I’ve been lucky that mine have worked and still do.

A few came in sets of three, so guess what my son got as an extra gift.

I have returned some sets for a refund with free PP as they were faulty from the outset, usually 1 or 2 from a set. But too late for this set. :( On the other hand, I may phone them anyway :)

Sometimes you just have to politely rant and they do help you. I once had a musical truck with christmas tree which didn't play the music and you could actually see it had been broken and glued back together. It was a bin job but QVC had decided to send it out to me (it was on clearance ). I was really gutted and phoned them and had a rant so they sent me a freepost lable etc, but it's not just that, it's the disappointment of paying for something you want, waiting for it to come and then find out it's someone else's old junk.

I have tea lights and matches in case of power cuts. They're the failsafe in case some of my many torches fail.

I've come to the conclusion that sealed rechargeable batteries are not everything they're cracked up to be and that includes solar. It doesn't stop me from living in hope and buying more, though, especially as I keep getting so many normal batteries failing by leaking. I try to remember all of them in my monthly maintenance trip around the house. I've found that just leaving without using leads to a higher fail rate.

Anyone else notice AA/AAAs leaking before (if you keep spares like I do) or in use? They never used to!

My sight is getting worse in the dark so I have battery-operated motion sensor lights dotted up the stairs, in the bathroom, on the landing and a few other places (eufy by Anker in case anyone's interested). Only a few have failed and those that did were either because I'd left them in the bathroom so the insides had rusted or because batteries had corroded in them.

I also have some plug-in torches that are motion-sensor action. They're from Lidl. I recently replaced a few that were starting to fade and fail. I've had those for several years - possibly a decade. They've gone up from the £4.99 I paid for the first lot to £7.99 when they were in store a few weeks ago. I bought several to give as gifts. Not glamorous but very practical.

I'll only replace stuff that I've been pleased with so that's the highest praise I can give to these items. Of course, the replacements might not be the quality of the old lights I'm replacing, as is the way these days.

I bought a small rechargeable UV torch last year that I use to recharge some items I have (works great on glow-in-the-dark stuff) and to find pet stains. Not from our dogs but from the feral neighbourhood cats who had started sneaking in when the dogs were in the garden. I have to keep doors closed in the summer these days . I was so impressed that I bought a normal version from Amazon when it was offer for Black Friday. I've no idea how long it'll last but it's a fab little thing. It's always in my pocket as it's small and light and always in there. I can't rely on my phone as sometimes if I've used it I'll have forgotten to put it back in my other pocket. I hope these last as they're so practical. If they do I'll replace straight away.

I've got a massive torch that I could use if the power fails, however it can only be in one place so to me it does make sense to have a number of them, however my phone is always close to hand and so long as it's charged I've got a flashlight that'll get me down to the bog in middle of the night without breaking my neck if there was no other lighting available. I've always got a good stock of candles in too, ok I didn't buy them with power cuts in mind but they'd certainly do the trick should one happen. Funnily enough just yesterday I was searching for a battery operated or chargeable table lamp as I rarely use the light on my lamp table at this time of year due to having a shortage of plug points in the front room I need it for the Dyson heater, Christmas tree lights etc. Just so long as we don't go back to the 1970's blackouts I think that a couple of torches, a stock of candles and a battery operated/rechargeable lamp will at least allow one to read a book or a newspaper as well as keeping you safe from trips and bumps. Stratto if I were you I'd stop buying torches in sets, and maybe stop buying them from QVC as you've had too many problems. If you buy one torch and it doesn't work then it's a lot simpler to get a refund or replacement.

I hardly ever use my phone, so I always have to search for it.

And I seem to have fairly regular power cuts, the cable under the road that feeds the street keeps getting water into it and blowing up.

I’ve got a couple of the wind up torches for use during power cuts. A small one I keep in my handbag as I used to use it walking home from work through a short wooded area that was unlit. Used to wind it up in work before I got on the bus so it was ready for when I got off to walk home. The one funny thing was when I used to be able to wear a Fitbit it didn’t half increase your steps for the day when you were winding it up🤣.
