Yankee Candle TSV 20/1/15

Help Support ShoppingTelly:

Have any of you had a letter from QVC about the auto delivery that's due about now from the January Yankee TSV? The July drop is the Café Culture collection (Pain au Raisin, etc) and Q say:

"... we won't be able to send this as quickly as we would have liked as it's proved to be more popular than expected. We're working closely with our vendor to get more stock in as quickly as possible".

Seems very odd to me when I don't think they have been selling the large jars in this next trio - they sell the original TSV and second drop (Grand Bazaar and Pure Essence) separately but how can the Café Culture collection have proved more popular than expected?

The letter goes on to say they hope to be able to send the set within the next 30 days but if not they'll have to cancel the order. It's probably due to total incompetency in the order department but the cynic in me says they don't want to supply these large jars because they have gone up £2 apiece in the meantime. Ah well, if QVC don't send them out, I should be able to pick up the two I wouldn't have minded, especially in sales, for under £15. They've been in the shops for several weeks.

I like to buy Yankee from QVC, but increasingly there is one scent in a set of 3 jars that I'm not keen on - so I usually manage to find the large jars I do want on Ebay individually for around £16 each and free postage.

Yes, same here. I don't know why I went for the Jan TSV to be honest, especially as they were all going to be in the shops anyway, most well ahead of the auto deliveries arriving. I only really liked one of the Grand Bazaar collection (not my thing) and two of the Pure Essence set. I should just have done as you say and bought the ones I liked cheaply elsewhere.

I think it's only worth going with QVC if the scents are literally not available elsewhere most of the time! I now prefer to smell them before I buy...

Everyone raves about the pure essence fragrances, but the only one I like is Cassis. Aloe Water and Shea Butter are bland to me. The only one of the Grand Bazaar I liked was the Frankincense. I'm now waiting to have a nose in the jar for some of the African series to see if I like any of those. Normally that would probably be in Clintons Cards, or Fenwicks. They haven't got them yet, but I'm prepared to wait! I've smelled all the café culture ones, and not a single one appeals to me, I'm afraid. Oh, and I saw them in the card shop months ago - so QVC are now shockingly behind the pace.

Thank you very much for this heads up, AndiK. I have not received any message or letter and my account is showing the AD as in process. If it doesn't come I shall get them elsewhere as I LOVE ALL OF THEM!!! Well not so much the things like vanilla cup cake (So food that is very sickly) or the very citrus ones but otherwise, I'm there big time, LOL.

And whilst I think about it..... They have a website, why don't they do a ****** update on that! They could put a little pic of a YC candle on the home page and say July AD update. Click on it and get to the message. Then anyone who might not get a letter (lost in post, Q cock up) would still know about it. I guess that is too flexible for the monolithic Q.

I think Q's communication is very lacking. As you say, what's so difficult about putting a general update on the website? In fact, they could have a section for all general supply and delivery issues - except it might not be a great advert for their service. Failing that, why not just email the whole list of people who they know are waiting for a particular delivery, instead of sending a letter which takes more time and uses lots of paper, costs 50p times xxxx customers, is slow and may not arrive? I just don't get that!

On the other hand, I wonder if they only have a limited supply and have chosen a number of customers to 'disappoint' so the letter was targeted? You may get yours?

Anyway, like you, I have the delivery showing as "in process" on my account.

I cancelled this AD a week or so ago, as I decided I didn't really want them and I have enough large jars for the moment.

I have however had a letter from QVC in the past about auto deliveries not being dispatched on time (actually it was the kitchen ones from last year) and when I emailed to complain about the part that says it will be cancelled I was told this is just a standard letter they send out and that they would have the stock, just not as quickly as they had hoped.

Now I kind of understood because they were US only fragrances, but this one I don't as they are widely available in the shops...

I was going to say that I remembered you cancelled your order so that's more stock released for me, ha ha!

Anyway, false alarm as I just called them, following what you said here, and apparently since the letters went out, they have had the stock in. The CS lady said deliveries are being sorted and mine should be with me by next Wednesday.

It makes even more of a mockery of the antiquated letter-sending thing when by the time the letter arrives, it's out of date!

AndiK, thanks for calling them and keeping us all updated.:mysmilie_59: (That is supposed to be a thank you smilie so I hope that is what it means, lol).

I just checked and mine is still in process, but if it is like last time mine was sent on the 22nd and received on the 24th.

No problem. Sorry if I alarmed you or anyone else. I think it's only the second time I have ever had a letter like that and now I know the form, I'll take it with a pinch of salt next time.

Hope your set arrives soon and gives you lots of pleasure!

This may explain something. I received a similar letter this morning. However the order reference quoted made no sense. It was too long and bore no relationship to that of any of the orders on my account. I even searched for it and nothing came up. I am currently waiting for word from CS to clarify this. If this has happened with the auto-delivery I cannot understand it. They would have had plenty of time (six months) to make sufficient to fulfil any AD orders.
Persumably, if they do have to cancel it, it will also cancel the final order - the winter choice (which are always my favourites).
It's a big irritating because I have been ordering this AD every year since they started doing it.

Hi Nicky-j. Did you see my post about calling QVC earlier and them saying they are ok for stock now? However, I do agree with you about it potentially being inexcusable. Not only would they have had plenty of time to get in as many as they needed for the people who bought the TSV on AD, but also I am sure a percentage of customers will have cancelled the ADs so they'll need fewer. It all seems strange to me, especially when they are not exactly buying in scents that are hard to get.

I thought the order number was odd too but I did find it in my order list, back in January when I got the original TSV. They've added a 0 at the start and four extra digits on the end of the ref number in my case.

Anyway, the good news is I see my order is now marked as despatched so I may get it by the weekend. Hurrah!

Thanks AndiK. I didn't see that post, but have now! I'll try your 'decoding' of my number and see whether I can find it too. Thanks!

Thanks once again for the update AndiK. I have checked my account and mine has been shipped. Yay!!!

(PS I got the 3 Out of Africa last week and today a box came from Temptation Gifts with the missing Madagascan Orchid one and matching tea-lights and tarts! So as you can see I seriously needed this AD, lol.)

The decoding didn't work for me but managed to track it back to January. And mine has been despatched today! Hurrah! Panic over! Sounds lush too!

Great! Seems we are all happy and our deliveries are on their way!

Mazza, are you pleased with the Madagascan Orchid? I imagine it might be quite a heady floral? I've tried the Kilimanjaro Stars and Serengeti Sunset in votive form and they are not what I would normally go for but I did like them. Not smelt the Egyptian Musk at all yet.

Nicky-j, I told you wrong about the order number - they didn't add a zero at the start of it on the letter but missed it off. Anyway, you've found the order now so all's well.

Well it didn't seem particularly heady to me but then I do not get overpowered by candles like some people. I thought it had a lot of green notes in it rather than a pure floral. I did like the very warm smelling Egyptian Musk and Kilimanjaro Stars (very very like Midsummer's Night) and of the four the least appealing is Serengeti Sunset as it is very fruity. This is all based on sniffing the cold wax though, God knows when they will be burnt as it is all in date order here!!!

I found the Serengeti Sunset orange-y - I thought it was my imagination at first, suggested by the wax colour. Must check out the Musk and Orchid.

I like your candle-lighting system - very organised. I have recently sorted out all my beauty products and got them in approximate date order too. At least it's made me realise I don't need any more face creams or cleansers for a year or two.
