Why do some QVC presenters plead for T callers.....

I honestly thought all the phone calls were faked.

They often say something like "so and so from Tipton" and then the person who speaks doesn't have anything like the accent from the place they are allegedly calling from - or the accent sounds staged.
As they witter on about nothing in particular, I was convinced the callers were out of work actors lol!

Many moons ago, Ideal World once asked me if I would like to speak to the studio, they must've been desperate because I kept saying "thanks, but no thanks" but the salesperson kept on and on until I had to hang up. I'm generally very tolerant, but blimey I was ageing on the spot. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D15%252F15%255F8%255F138%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_8_138.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D15%252F15_8_138%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

One of the two times I was daft enough to buy something from Cackdeal World they kept on and on at me to go through to the studio to speak to Shaun. They were almost begging in the end!!

Some of the T-callers on QVC are so cringey. It often seems to be people who come on saying "oh well of course I'm housebound/have a terminal illness/can't move off the sofa/have just been in hospital/recently bereaved etc etc. It almost seems like some people have phoned in just for a chat with *anyone* which makes me feel really quite awkward, so I dread to think how the presenters must feel sometimes. Mind you, the occasional one who takes their on air opportunity to have a good moan about a product is funny! And usually ushered off air very quickly!

I probably shouldn't admit this but I once went through to the studio and spoke to Debbie and Simon! I recorded it and when I played it back I realised just how daft I sounded.

There is a regular caller Caroline. I cannot place her accent but she has a distinctive voice and is very comfortable on the phone. I think she last called in for the Kipling show but I think she has also called for other product shows.

Have often wondered whether she is a plant :33:

Bet

I don't think they are plants. A friend of mine has been on several times in the past and was very good at it. I think it's just that they may keep a record of those "comfortable" on air and so ask them to speak as a T-caller, hence a few "familiar" people crop up now and again.

i often feel sorry for the old/lonely/sick/housebound callers, i think it says alot about society when the t caller tells presenters they are the only friends they have and look forward to watching them everyday.

maybe qvc with its huge profits should see if the can do more for this peeps, i dunno what really maybe build up a 'nuture a local to you t caller in need', i know that qvc is not a charit but you can clearly see some presenters (julia particularly) are genuinly move by the calls and it must prey on their minds once they get home

I think the calls must be the worst part of a presenter's job (yes, even worse than bigging up the Quacker Factory TSV). The presenter is obviously expected to get the T-caller to say that QVC is wonderful, the product line is wonderful, and ignore the fact that the caller's situation can be heartbreaking.

I remember one call where a woman said she'd spent thousands with QVC in the last year...since her husband died. The presenter (I think it was Julia) was clearly very concerned, and had to handle it carefully.

I heard someone this week - think it was Claudia - gently advise a customer not to get carried away and spend too much. I bet she got some stick from The Management for that.

I think the QVC presenters have been coached to tell T callers who spend too much to 'sit on their hands'. As they always seem to come out with that line.

QVC could do an annual telethon, and call it 'T callers in need'.

Another reason to order from the safety of my laptop and or phone!

Have to confess though that I've been tempted when they've shown a product I've been really very pleased with. Promptly reminded self to get a grip so can see how easy it would be to get persuaded.

.. it's all a bit sad really .. but on saying that if u cant get out at all (like my mun who is 89) I'm here all the time with her we have so much fun on QVC & learn lots and ... I can sort of feel sorry for the ole peeps who come threw and chat (not sorry but happy) yes, it's so nice to hear them and having the confidence to speak on air goodness me .. it has to be admired!

I s'pose it is kinda sad if that's all they have to look forward to but on the other hand, it's their money & as long as they're not spending way more than they can afford, then if they want to spend their day watching QVC & buying tons of Thomas Kinkade, Tiffany Style Lighting, strange cabochon knuckle-duster rings & the odd pot of Gatineau or whatever, then go for it I say!

I always get really excited when I know the postman's coming with my QVC/eBay stuff & presumably they do too! If they're truly all alone in the world, then no reason not to & if they do have relatives, why leave your pennies to your kids when you can spend it on (& enjoy!) Quacker Factory while you're still alive? Hell yeah!
