What does Gems do to it's presenters?

Just caught Amelia Grant on QVC and it is like a different woman! She is talking clearly, her sales patter makes sense and is an absolute pleasure to watch.

Seems.like leaving Gemporia is the answer! šŸ¤£

To be fair to Amelia, she was one of the better ones on Gemporia anyway.

Stick someone like Jess Foley on QVC, and she'll be exactly the same as she is on Gemporia. Absolutely.

I think that it's a lot easier to sell something when you have concrete facts to share about the items you're bringing to screen. Especially if you are wanting to build up and encourage repeat custom.

It's very obvious that Gemporia, despite it's loud claims of wanting to "educate" viewers, pushes its presenters to lie by omission (Screaming about a stone's fantabulous colour, but never mentioning the treatments it's gone through. Raving about how expensive Sleeping Beauty turquoise is in high end stores, but not once stating that Gemporia's stones are reconstructed), and to leave out other relevant information in favour of tons of bull.... Stuff.

Or even to blatantly lie to its viewers. I think that it would take a ruthless type of person to be fine with that long term. Which is why I don't rate any of the current crop of presenters. Some might appear to be more sincere and approachable than others, but at the end of the day they're all perfectly fine with lying to viewers and selling gold tone tat as "heirloom" items

Agreed that Amelia is a different person on QVC. Perhaps going to air with an item at a pre-set price makes the presentation more comfortable and perhaps she enjoys being the specialist guest with products that she has been able to become knowledgeable about. Of course some of the features of products highlighted are rather over stating their benefits but she seems to be in a happy place.
It was a surprise that Gemporia had Toby Cavill actually presenting this morning. Not guesting or with any featured stones, just three hours of 'essential' Gemporia. Is everyone else on holiday? Or walked? Out of interest I tried to find an 'our presenters' page, which I am sure that I have seen in the past, but couldn't find it. Perhaps it would take too much time keeping the page up to date?

Still there

They're down to the bare bones due to presenters being on holiday and maternity leave.

Kate McCarthy is away for her third week.
Adina and Angeline have been away.
Ellis no longer does Fridays.
Lynn Jinks seems to turn up once in a blue moon.
Nick has been covering on Gem Collector.
Rachel Hatton is on maternity leave.

The 3pm shift seems to be causing the real problems with all three presenters in that time slot with Rachel Hatton off, Kate on her third week off, and Lynn Jinks turning up as and when.

They still don't seem to be in a position to bring in freelancers - so we've seen Steph, Kati Elliott, Jeff Hayden, Jess Foley, Cherry Cavill and Toby Cavill filling in wherever they can.

I wonder how long it'll be before Dave Troth gets thrust into the presenter chair to mumble and drone.

Ehhhhhh Dave as a presenter?! šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜…

The problem with insomnia for every member of Gemporia cured at once šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚!
That specimen of a potential presenter possesses a rare charisma of a door knob, not to mention his exquisite taste in loving the most ā€œRARE and OBSCURE treasures ā€œ he works hard to bring to us!
If there is ever something obscure and only attractive in terms of a Mother Nature gift ā€¦Dave is your man to find and bring it to you for a fraction of a price šŸ˜‚! Desperately waiting for some new discoveries given a native fancy name ā€¦.

I am saving my pennies for my precious gem for Dave to bring for a fraction of its priceā€¦ KARABOOOBIENUSHKA!
ā€ found and mined exclusively in the village of Borat!
Mines are closed now ā€¦.Yakshimash! get yours set exclusively in gold tone to put in as your heirloom to your children!ā€

Plus , how very dare you sir šŸ˜‚, he is a GEM EXPERT ( check the website), how could you to suggest that he should be just a lowly presenter! šŸ˜‚!

There Is a page ā€œmeet our presentersā€ that is still patent, I checked it, as there have been changes in the last few months.

If you use the website, then there is a little link below ā€œyour text to the studioā€ and if you press that, it would take you to the presenters and Gem Experts šŸ˜€

They used to get Derek in when they were short of presenters but I haven't seen him for ages.

Derek became a regular presenter on the 3am till 7am shift - but he was one of those that fell victim to the redundancy cuts earlier in the year.
Ah, I used to see him filling in for Jim or Ruth at 11pm, then I got a job where I needed to be up at 5.30am so I didn't watch that late.

Matt, Steveā€™s son used to present occasionally, wonder what he is doing now ? I thought he was ok as a presenter.

To the extent they have it within them acting/presenting wise, they simply adapt themselves to the channel they're on in terms of its overall quality (production, sets, products, ethos.) Nothing more, nothing less.

He's a commercial airline pilot (Jet2) - it was always something he wanted to do.

He pops up now and again - but very rarely. He came on a few times during Covid times when flights were severely affected - but now things are back to normal, he's rarely on.

As far as I know, Matt is a qualified gemologist & obviously very knowledgeable about gemstones - would have made a better CEO than Jade Thompson! šŸ˜‚

Actually, the office cat probably knows more!

Matt is the most qualified there as far as I'm aware when it comes to gemstones. I believe he's also channel manager of Gem Collector.

As you say, Matt is an actual GIA qualified gemmologist - whereas the other three 'gem experts' don't appear to have any letters after their name at all - apart from Jade Thompson, who has the same GIA AJP accreditation as the presenters.

Matt always said that he'd dreamt of being a pilot from a youngster - and he went off to do just that. Good on him.

One of the last times Matt was on air he essentially said he didnā€™t really care about the designs of jewellery being sold and it was only the gemstones that kept him interested in the company and there were multiple pieces shown that he openly suggested melting down and using the stone for something nicer.
Given this it is probably mutually beneficial for the company and Matt for him to no longer really appear outside of the occasional launch on Gem Collector of stones that are actually likely to be of interest (which I get the impression wouldnā€™t necessarily have to be the nicest looking or most valuable stones as long as there was a story behind them).
From the companies point of view they wouldnā€™t want someone who talks the truth about the stones and items they are now selling and I very much doubt whether he would want to sell the kind of stuff that now dominates the schedule.

Said it before here

The environment is a MASSIVE factor in any sales business

Yes a part of it will remain the same wherever they present, there are numerous examples over the past 10 years of presenters who
are almost completely different
