Not sure but may well have been, from when I had gallstones, I think that's one of the differential diagnoses they try & eliminate? :wonder:

Am presuming current problems are just part of the FM, though bizarrely I used to suffer horrendous indigestion pain even as a child (for which I was fed copious quantities of milk of magnesia, remember that?), which presumably means I either had FM back then (a distinct possibility as I was tested more than once for RA etc. due to constant pain & such!), or gallstones back then; the pain was crippling & I was frequently doubled over in the school loos! :wonder:

I had repeated gastric pain as a child and our GP told my mother I would grow out of it. I had my first gallstone attack at 25 and was told it would probably be a "one off" but they continued to grumble away until I had surgery about 15 years later.

I now get something called Tietze's Syndrome allied to my RA - pain radiating out from the breastbone through the ribs - and, apparently, that can mimic the pain of a heart attack or gastric pain.

well that Tietze's Syndrome might mean something to all of us Disenchanted - never heard of it but it sounds like many of us get it! Thank you!

100 times worse when i lay down. It.just.burns across.my chest. The Dr told me its because the acid disperse across the chest.
Good to know but no help when you''re in agony.

Quick question whilst we're sharing. Does anyone else get very hot and sweaty when they having. the other symptoms?

Why are we even getting acid LEL? You're on omeprazole too you were saying on another thread? I started out taking one every other day, now it's every day and I'm allowed two a day if & when I think it necessary, but no more than two. She switched me onto lansoprazole and from the point of view of taking them they were brilliant, dispersed on the tongue, and as I can't swallow a pill to save my life that suited me, but the med itself didn't...for two or three weeks I had such a sore throat (listed on side effects) I had to go back and she put me back onto omeprazole.

I get hot flushes during the night anyway but more menopausal than to do with my other symptoms...

Have just had a quick look at a leaflet I was given about Tietze's syndrome and it says Fibromyalgia is another cause!

ah! I've often wondered about do I have this, and asked the doc (different doc), she said well there's no test and no cure and don't we all have some of the symptoms..very helpful eh!

This morning I've eaten porridge and have had one cup of tea and two coffees, and I have that feeling in my middle..wind? indigestion? I've given up wondering but it just always seems to be there...maybe I should try leaving off dairy or something. Anyone had one of those allergy tests done and if so any good?

It's all very well doctors trying to fob us off with "you'll grow out of it", "there's no definitive test for that", "wait and see" - but it has been proven that so-called "benign" symptoms can develop into something very serious - ie Barrett's syndrome which, untreated, can lead to cancer of the oesophagus.

You poor poor things, I have IBS but not to the same effect as you all. I do get awful , excuse me, wind, but sometimes the buscopan help.
IBS can also be brought on by stress, and this happens to me.

Have any of you thought that you might be coeliac, i think you can get tested for that, that might be causing a lot of your problems.

My daughter has fibro, and she had a blood test from a private doctor, some people believe in it and others think its not an illness, but
ive seen my DD in agony with it. Pains in arms, legs, back. They had to get her special chair for work. The doctor put her on so many
tablets, but shes taken herself of them and is trying to control it with yoga and pilates.

Have you all ever thought about a food diary and see whats causing the upset, see if yu can find a pattern.

But sitting up at 3.00 KWC sounds awful, and go back to your doctors, see if they have any other suggestions that could help, or any
different tablets. Don't be going through these and it could be something different, like coeliac etc.

Sorry i cant be any more help, but i do advise the doctor, they get paid enough. xx

Yes i take two omeprozole a day, i don't find they help much. Why do we have so much acid,? apparently ,according to the consultant, the three main culprits coffee, stress and the dreaded cigs . I avoid any acidic food. tomatoes and strawberries, which i love are a big no no.

well stress, definitely, I'm big on anxiety & depression! Coffee I never drank till recently but I have three or four a day now, Kenco tubes, and, being honest, I don't think they help. I've just had a Blue Riband bar and yet another cuppa (tea) and burped, sometimes it helps me to eat something to shift the windy-pops! I loved tommies & strawberries too but not for me now because of the seeds (diverticulitis) so some days you do wonder just what you CAN eat don't you...

Barbs..the doc that sent me for the cameras 12 months ago did test me for coeliac disease and I don't have that - yet so many of the symptoms fitted me to a tee, including the iron deficiency, which the doc was muttering about!

Eugh ,the camera i had it without sedition, big mistake!!!!
I was anemic but even the blooming iron tablets made my stomach worse.
Now what to have for lunch?

Back to kitten at the beginning of this thread - has coeliac disease has been eliminated as a possibility for you?

I think I'm going to have a look in the pantry and see if that helps, without actually eating!

no sedation! no thanks! I did manage last time without the throat spray..first time, I just couldn't stop gagging after I'd had that shoved down my throat, the nurse said "I told you it tasted bad" but it wasn't that, I've got a dicky throat at the best of times, as soon as the dentist puts a finger in my gob I'm off! Eeh..it's a good job we can come on here and have a chat and a laugh with others innit!

You're a very brave girl!!!

Ha ha, you wouldn't have said that if you'd have seen me. Gagging, burping and almost in tears. On the.other hand the second it was over i was fine.

BM you're right, thank goodness we can laugh about it(sort of)

I made such a fuss about the possibility of gagging that I was sedated almost to the point of delirium! I even challenged the doc to a drinking contest, apparently.......

They always encourage you not to take sedation, as then you can leave, if yu have sedation they've to keep you 4 hours. I made the big mistake first time and nearly gagged, and i had the heli thing, and the second time i had it id the sedation, and talked right through it.

This is probably what you know, but eat very slowly, my granda used to say, chew you food twenty times, we're all guilty of eating quickly, me especially in work with short lunch breaks, but that does give you wind.

BusyM i would look into the coeliac as you might have it now, worth a try, nothing to loose And stress does aggrevate all these things

Oh my goodness, i wonder who would have won.

As revolting as the endoscopy is, i think the worst ever is the two days of gastrogafin before a colonoscopy!! (shudders)

do any of you find things worse if you lay on your back? I prop myself up with a wedge of pillows anyway, to keep the acid down (which I shouldn't get, being on acid suppressants you'd think?!) but sometimes in a morning when I wake up I roll onto my back and THEN comes the "stone on breastbone" pain, and then I wonder how did I sleep thru it and get indigestion in the morning?? or is it morning mini heart attacks??

I sleep on my front, a habit I got into when I had gallstones I think & now I find it hard to sleep otherwise! The 'spreading out across chest' pain does not go well with this however, mind you, neither does lying on my back, it hurts either way!

Quick question whilst we're sharing. Does anyone else get very hot and sweaty when they having. the other symptoms?

Yes, very hot, I presumed it was mainly due to verging on panic though! lol

I had repeated gastric pain as a child and our GP told my mother I would grow out of it. I had my first gallstone attack at 25 and was told it would probably be a "one off" but they continued to grumble away until I had surgery about 15 years later.

Sounds nastily familiar. Very. Exact description actually. The other night the pain had spread to my upper arms & I was so stiff & tense I wrenched my deltoids, pectorals, everything, still hurts to move too much.

Back to kitten at the beginning of this thread - has coeliac disease has been eliminated as a possibility for you?

Ta to Dis & Sparkly for bringing this up. Not been tested, oh I might have been, I forget, I've had every other ruddy test. Unlikely as I eat a lot of pasta & am mainly fine, though I stick to only two known to be ok brands. I do have a major problem with flour, cheap flour especially, the cheapo bags are a no no for baking & I react badly to Ikea crispbread which is covered in a dusting of flour! Crackers for cheese, no!
I reacted unpleasantly the other week to something & all I had eaten recently was some live Morrison's Greek yoghurt, eh, isn't that supposed to be good for your inner workings??? Despite no gall bladder (wonderful thing greed, happy to suffer for the cause! lol) I can eat a piece of cheesecake but not a piece of shortbread, huh?

It's all very confusing isn't it, you think you have a pattern & then.....you don't! :wonder:

I made such a fuss about the possibility of gagging that I was sedated almost to the point of delirium! I even challenged the doc to a drinking contest, apparently.......

lol..! I sat there on my trolley having (allegedly) been previously sedated and back to the waiting room with the thing-a-ma-jig hanging on my inner elbow...they called me thru and then up on the trolley and wheeled thru to somewhere else - still sitting fully compos mentis...then a lady came in and asked if I'd any questions and told me to lie down...I just kept saying "I'm not asleep you know.." but thankfully they timed it just right as I just started coming to as it was coming back out and must have moved, remember them holding me down and saying you're fine, it's coming out now - they they spun the trolley round to do the other end - I tell you girls, what with childbirth and having cameras shoved down your throat and up your flue, we've no dignity left have we!

Nobody encouraged me NOT to have sedation - but the second one, without the throat spray, I was home quite quickly - with the spray they keep you in longer as you can't eat or drink for two or three hours in case you choke, with your throat being numbed. What I didn't like was being told all that could happen with both procedures before I signed the consent form...but of course they're obliged to tell you aren't they..buggers..! Looking back it must have been funny as there we all lay on our trolleys afterwards, being encouraged to fart away - must have been woozy as I let rip and I'd die first in company normally!
