Upheld Complaints Against Sit-Up - 24 July 2013

Help Support ShoppingTelly:

I rather suspect that when you correspond with the ASA you also use metaphoric terminology.

That would explain the responses you have received

Oops ... yet another 'speculative' post from the man who only deals in facts LOL it must be tricky having such flimsy principles. :)

Ironically your arrogant defence of this blatently misleading and corrupt strategy is reminiscent of the type of defence YOU accuse BID TV of using to defend their ASA complaints. Oops. New moral compass for Wirral please!

Yet more nonsense that you cannot possibly substantiate although i'm happy to give you the opportunity to try.

Can you please provide me with evidence of one single incident where I have criticised, or more to the point complained, about Sit Up selling a product at an introductory price?

I rather suspect, yet again, that you can't.

Bingo it looks like Wirral now has his teeth into you now

Wirral do you work for the Asa?

Just so you are clear, you seem to no an AWFUL lot about how they work some would say to much for it be a healthy thing

How is your watchdog case going btw?

Bid still trading i see

PMSL at your ability to swerve the facts and respond to something you have plucked from thin air lol. what an hilarious attempt to slither out of it. maybe you should back peddle a little and read YOUR posts in which YOU defend IW and their sneaky and disgusting strategy of suggesting people are saving a TENNER on a product which is sold everywhere at the SAME price or less! i even did you the favour of posting the regulations which they where in CLEAR BREACH of. in case you FORGOT here they are again:

1.3.2 You should not allow an offer to run on so long that it becomes misleading to
describe it as an ‘introductory’ or other ‘special offer’. What is a reasonable period
will depend on the circumstances (but, depending on the shelf-life of the product, it is
likely to be a matter of weeks, not months)
. In general, you should state the date
the offer will end

1.3.4 If you decide to quote a future price, you should explain what you mean in full.
The use of acronyms should be avoided as they do not clearly convey information
that consumers need to know. The description should be clearly and prominently
displayed with the price indication.

As IW didn't do any of this they are in clear violation of the BIS rules. and. i think most people (not including you of course wirral) but most rational level headed UNBIASED people would agree that SUGGESTING you are saving a tenner when you are NOT is misleading. especially when they FAILED to mention it was a promotional price AT ANY POINT, Didn't state the date the promotion would end and in their response stated a timeline which is beyond that recommended by BIS. incredible. amazingly. unbelievably you have the TENACITY to defend such corrupt and despicable actions. A clearer POT/KETTLE moment you will struggle to find!

in case you have forgotten. here is YOUR post DEFENDING their shoddy tactics.

"Yes, those poor people who got a product for £10 less than usual.

If that qualifies me to be sick then I happily concede, I am sick"

And

"Simple Bing. Because the standard price is £59.99

Exactly the same as Argos"

(THE ARGOS PRICE IS ACTUALLY £49.97 - I NOTICE YOU STRATEGICALLY AVOIDING ADDRESSING YET ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR WILD AND INCORRECT SPECULATIONS)

Next time, just prior to climbing on your high horse about BIDS response to an ASA complaint. maybe try and remember this moment. because nobody likes a hypocrite. and i suspect your not a fan of looking this much of a fool.

I look forward to reading your desperately predictable response. in which you will no doubt yet again dodge the facts and pluck out something from thin air to get angry and patronising about. 'yawn'

All Wirral is doing is defending his actions. Check his posts. When Wirral sees something good on bid like me and others he is the first to praise. Why is it that 95% of bid defenders attack st.com members rather than explain why they think bid are in the right?

I think bingowings gives as good as she gets, there is no ganging up it is just a bit of banter between people with opposing views. Of course if bingo was feeling ganged up on there is the report a post and belive me Graham and Sazza will treat it fairly and step in whre needed.

I am sure you have been critical of bid, I never said you haven't have I? :)

Hope you have a nice day,

It's obvious there is a vendetta against bid/sit-up, i just don't wish to be involved really.

really it should be against shopping tv on the whole as they all commit shady practises and moral grey areas.

I hate to bring up facts again but if you look back through the thread at post #31 I said, quote 'The Argos standard price is £59.99 but they are selling it for £49.67 with free delivery'.

I have no idea where you conjured the £49.97 price from, I assume it's another mistake on your part :giggle:

No you referred to me as a "bid defender" and that 95% of my posts are defending bid

I suggest you revisit those figures

Being such a fan of factual and accurate reporting i think you will

Oh yes Graham and the moderators 100% fair and impartial

Lol

I talked about bid defenders but I didn't link that phrase to you. I even made it clear it wasn't all of them.

PJ

PS it is Graham's site and he can run it as he wants but yes I believe is he very fair.

There most certainly is not a vendetta against sit up. The reason I complain about Sit up, is because it is the channel I watch and before the improvements were made, I was truly shocked by some of the shoddy selling practices I witnessed on these channels, and in all honesty I have never seen anything like it on any other channel. I'm not saying all other channels don't have faults, I agree with what you say, they probably do all commit shady practices and have moral grey areas - but when I started to watch bid a lot, it wasn't so much of a "grey area" - It was a massive flashing coloured banner! Ideal world used to be my default channel, but when they whittled their range down to about 3 different products, all of which I had no interest, I stopped watching. Bid and PD were a breath of fresh air, banter with presenters and assistants, loads of different random products, some really good prices, but after a very short time indeed I was saying " Hang on a minute here - that's a bit naughty!" The rest of course, is history.
I'm sure watchers of the other channels will deal with any problems they encounter, should they see fit, but in the meantime Bid viewers, will naturally complain if they see anything they believe is "not right!

I really really don't want to see them go, but they still don't seem to be taking the rulings seriously, just this morning Guy was selling a torch with batteries, It was a fiver, and he literally leant toward the camera making gestures with his hands "It's a fiver for God's sake!"..."You'll pay a fiver for the batteries alone" - True, well it would be if the torch didn't actually cost £13, or over £14 (if you phone), and during that presentation I didn't hear him refer to extra charges once...Has he forgotten how thin the ice they're skating on is right now, or does he not care? Ok, Other channels may not mention p&p, perhaps they should, but from what I've seen it's a lot cheaper than £7.99 per item. If they charged £2.95 say I doubt if anyone would have brought the subject up in the first place!

Ok everyone, let's turn over to Side B of the 'Relaxing with Bid' cassette and relax!!

Let's imagine that NO ONE had made a single complaint about Bid's 'highly' dubious selling practices... what would it be like?

a) No one would mention the P&P cost
b) No one would mention the fact you are charged multiple P&P costs even if you buy 9 items in one single transaction
c) B$ stories about products being available in Macy's etc would still be told
d) B$ stories about comparing low-end products with high-end products would still be ongoing
e) Every home in the UK would be the proud owner of a Stephen Gayford Portrait of a tiger in heat
f) Gener8 steam mops would be the number one cause of deaths on the HSE website
g) There would be no £10 credit to your account with dodgy t&c's because Bid.tv would be literally raking in money from multi-buys etc
h) James Russell would be selling Tanzanite like it's the best thing since Kryptonite
i) Peter Simon would be still raking in money for the Royal Legion by telling us how he fought in the World Wars whilst eating a can of Spam... whilst donating 0.01% to the charity.
j) Gold finish would still be real gold!
k) Jay Cooper would still be shouting on the phone to his customers
l) Nicola George would still be there with her B$ stories (how she got past Australia immigration i will NEVER know)
m) Guy Kean would be saying 0904 251 2000 instead of reminding us how much the P&P cost is
n) The P&P costs would still be in font size 0.01
o) Mike Mason's burglar alarm would be comparable to the one installed at Barclays Bank
p) The ASA would have nothing to do
q) Tommy Earnshaw would be better than Rolex
r) Sally Flapjack would have a range of underwear
s) You'll be entered into the Bid.tv club for £99 per annum whether you like it or not
t) Moissanite would have travelled through space, over the milky way, transported onto the starship Enterprise and spotted by Mike Mason in his telescope (to add detail for selling purposes)
u) Peter Sherlock would have enough money from P&P to change his name to John Paul DuPont
v) A-list celebrities would choose Sally Flapjack underwear
w) Bingowings would be the Bid.tv fanclub president and general secretary, treasurer and librarian
x) This forum would be purchased by Sit-up Ltd., shot down like a lead balloon and re-pointed to Disney.com
y) Wayne the Chef gets 4 stars at McDonalds.
z) Egyptian cotton towels, made in Essex, branded in Egypt.

:drunk: I'm sure there's more but no more alphabet for me...

Paul, as ever you make a great point but there are one or two posters who simply will not (or more likely cannot) ever provide even the slightest crumb of real evidence that any other channels behave in the way Sit Up do.

They spout, they insult, they pontificate. But not once, not on one single example (by an Upheld complaint even when they make multiple complaints themselves) can they provide any discernible evidence that Sit Up are a real victim.

Plenty of rhetoric, lots of amusing posts (from Bingo anyway, who I like very much even if we do squabble). But no facts.

None. Zip, Nada, None whatsoever.
