I've been suckered in AGAIN!

But it is something I will use if it is any good.

I have a chain across my private drive to stop people using my drive to turn around in, and the tarmac has been damaged by this.

But there are no street lamps so the chain is invisible at night.

I intend to wrap these around the chain and am hoping it won't look too naff, and that they will stay lit for long enough.

And they were on clearance :)

Good idea.

But I've also fallen for the Wonder Shovel, new feather pillows, more lock'n'locks, solar lights, Kochblume cloths, insulated totes (mainly to defrost my freezer and see what is inside the drawers jammed up with ice), mattress topper (after getting rid of my water bed), and Echo Studio speaker, all within a fairly short period.

Is there a "QVC Anonymous" that I could join?

Today was very convenient, now it will be EXTREMELY inconvenient as I will almost certainly be out. :( :( :(

Did any other wonder-shovellers have this problem?

Selly telly can be as addictive as gambling I daresay. The presenters aren`t there to Police their viewers spending habits but I do think some people are addicted to it. I rarely watch these days but pre internet days I often watched once the kids were in bed or hubby was busy doing something but never ever spent money I couldn`t afford to spend.
I think the onus is on people to recognise they may have a problem and not just with Q but with shopping in general, whether online, in bricks and mortar shops or off the TV. Maxing out their credit cards, hitting the overdraft hard or robbing Peter to buy something off Paul and their household bills/mortgage/rent suffer. Getting into debt is a darned sight easier than getting out of debt and can take many years to clear and can risk people losing everything. I worked with several gambling addicts when I worked for the SA and one guy actually killed himself because he`d lost his wife, his family, his home and his job and all through debt.
We live in a World which encourages people to spend money they don`t have, easy pays, Klarna, credit cards, overdrafts, buy now pay later , online loans, even pawnbrokers are having a boom time as people sell their jewellery, designer bags or other belongings. We also live in a World where people are often judged by the house they live in, the car they drive, the clothes they wear and where they shop and some people live well beyond their means because of this.
It`s easy for some of us to say well just don`t do it, be sensible, don`t watch Q or browse websites, cut up your cards etc etc, live within your means but sadly there will always be people who simply don`t find it easy to do such things because they are already on the rollercoaster of owing more money than they earn or think buying just that one more handbag, dress, household item or whatever it may be, will make them feel better and it may do for all of 5 minutes.
I think Q and other retail or online outlets where you have to have an account, should set limits on how much you can spend and how often you can do so ie ensure you pay off one item before you can buy another. Of course they won`t ever do that not unless they were forced to buy law but that day will never come.
There will be plenty of people who buy the Dyson hair gizmo and won`t even have to think about the money but there will also be other people who will be robbing Peter to pay Paul and will be trying to convince themselves that they`ve just GOT to have it. Thankfully I`m not one of them.

Unfortunately as most shopping is on a credit card the company would have no idea if you clear it monthly, pay the minimum or swop cards around like a Merry go round.

In my youth unpaid debt was a stigma and certainly no one outside business went bankrupt but now it has gone very USA in that Joe Public can do it.

We have a government ad running at present for people in debt which states many times it’s nothing to be ashamed of and even suggesting that it is normal! Perhaps that is part of the problem knowing you can just walk away?

Some people must get dizzy with the number of easy pays they have on the go at any one time. I`ve used EP now and again but only ever one at a time. It`s the same with things such as a Next account or store cards, I`d just panic if I had them so I don`t have them and never will.
My late first husband had a sister who lived with a man who gambled and drank heavily too. It was back in the days of weekly pay packets and he`d collect his wages on a Friday and she wouldn`t clap eyes on him until after his work on Monday and his pockets would be empty.
Their daughter was only a toddler at the time and my SIL didn`t work. In the end she went to speak to her husband`s boss who brought him in and tore a strip off him for not ensuring his wife had enough money in her purse to feed them and pay the rent. She admitted that many a time she hid behind the sofa when the rent collector called. The boss put an instruction out to whoever made up the wage packets that a certain amount from R`s pay packet would be set aside every Friday for his wife to collect in person. Even then he`d still try to get money off her to feed his gambling addiction.
After several more years she`d had enough and threw him out. Her daughter was older by then and at school so she found herself a job. She had the locks changed, told the landlord to change the rent book over to her name and one bit at a time she began to catch up with bills etc. It was only after she threw him out that the letters arrived from loan companies , he must have been borrowing and hiding the letters from her and he must also have been borrowing off loan sharks too because several heavies turned up looking for him. Thankfully they believed her when she said she had no idea where he was but she told them where he worked and also where he might have been staying with his sister.
Not long afterwards she moved and to this day she has no idea if he is alive or dead and where he may be. This was all back in the early 70`s and she had a long wait to finally divorce him because he couldn`t be found. Nowadays she lives with a lovely man she met about 20 years ago but still won`t marry him even though he is the total opposite to her husband but they have a nice life together, both are now retired and she`s very happy. In her case life ended good even though it took her many years but sadly in some cases it ends in disaster for the whole family, some of whom don`t even know they`re going to be evicted because partners hide how bad things really are.

I got completely caught up with the novelty when I first saw QVC, and then the hype selling.

Nowadays I am much more discriminating but they still show me things I can hardly resist.

But at least I now do a lot of googling to see if I can get things cheaper elsewhere.

The only reason I still watch them (although never live) is because they do introduce new items to me, such as the Ninja Foodi air fryer (I put a review up on this on the Q website). And it was a lot cheaper than anywhere else and had FREE pp too.

Sounds like you've bought some useful things.

Sad story. Gambling can be an addiction much like drugs or alcohol. The boss should have recommended professional help but perhaps that wasn't an option in those days.

First time since lockdown I ventured into Brent Cross (north London) shopping centre, and on my rare visits there in the past I would have spent a small fortune. this time I came home with a couple of cups and saucers from Fenwicks and a new eyeshadow.

My point is, the power of persuasion on the tele is huge. So easy to sit and hit the 'buy' button, but you think more than twice when faced with the product on the shelf in front of you. Spending £70 on a handbag and handing over cash/credit card can be a 'mulling over' process - you walk out of the shop and think about it, BUT your brain is wired differently for tele/online shopping - its not like you're spending anything.

I'm a much more discerning shopper now. Maybe its my age. No longer need formal clothing - have loads of stuff to wade through in the wardrobe. Same with shoes. Knick knacks are being shipped out wholesale to the charity shop, as are enough glasses to accommodate a wedding reception ! huge collection of cds that never get played are also on their way through the door; AND doesn't it make you feel so much better !
Takes a ton of weight off when you rid yourself of accumulated stuff that you'll never use

The number of stories we have read here over the years. QVC US and even UK, mother dies family have to go into the home and clear out to find masses of unopened boxes from QVC. There have been complaints on the QVC US forum from people who had this happen. But QVC do nothing because it is not their job to police people buying from them, Now, if you happened to owe money to them all hell will be unleashed from the finance department.

Hermes delivered my shovel just fine. I'm 4' 11" and I could take the box off the driver no problem. Whether I can actually dig out the %*#@*!& bamboo is another question.

My TSV spade and mini tool arrived in my courier’s car, assuming that’s the item that you mean. I think it was on her back seat.

All I can think of is that it was too long to fit into an ordinary car as used by my deliverer.
I‘ve had this happen with an item 🤔 I ordered from somewhere 🤔
Think it was down for delivery 🤔 then got changed last minute.
Think its the courier on collecting orders from the depot asks that the item goes by Hermes delivery van.
Maybe they have to have items under certain weight but also certain size that they fit into a closed boot. As maybe rules are that really such items should not be carried on the back seat of a car in full view of potential thieves. I guess though if you get some couriers in what’s termed less vulnerable areas or prepared to risk it or their mode of transport is a van they may well take the item.

The email said 48 hours delay. But it came today 1/2 hour after I'd left the house, with no prior warning, otherwise I would have waited.

So it was left outside, which is not in my instructions, and will be there for days now.

Whose responsibility it it if it gets stolen in the meantime?

I guess it's their responsibility if they haven't fulfilled the order as instructed and you haven't received it. But it may be legally more complicated.
