Even though it was un needed, it was the thing which set Speed auction apart from bid/PD.

I watched friday, and they had watches, and used the block as the podium to show them off. I'm watching now, and haven't used it for the past 30 minutes.

They just went to the gavel with 7 seconds on the clock, pointless! lol

It is a promotional tool for the channel to 99% of the viewers (which being Speed isn't that many anyway) they wouldn't know if a gavel was used or not it was bound to start to become forgotten as the new channel progressed. It should be used when the clock comes on, should be simultaneous the clock countdown and the gavel.
