I suspect if you put some of the cheaper B&W “pieces” in front of a decent hifi speaker at full volume, they’d fall apart with the resonance.

Certainly is! My grandfather was a jeweller & moved to the UK from Poland in the 30s & his specialism was diamonds. One of the first pieces he made when he came to Birmingham was a wedding tiara & the one I have is identical to the final design except the stones are glass. It was made to see if the weight was acceptable & that the veil could be fitted properly. It contains a fair amount of gold & I have wondered how he managed to keep it... My grandparents had boxes of jewellery & loose stones, I was a careful child & spent hours playing with all this treasure, however, I was a teenager before my grandmother showed me clothes with specially made seams & hidden pockets that she wore when she left her true home.I hope that’s true!!

We wouldn't exist. He was obviously told what was about to happen, they went away to see a customer & never returned. Because of his trade they planned to stay in Amsterdam, obviously moving to the UK saved their lives. My grandfather was happy living in Birmingham; he really admired Mr Churchill, as he always called him, & loved his job. However, my grandmother must have found being on her own all day in a foreign land without anyone she knew incredibly difficult. She never talked about her past & the bits & pieces I do know came from my mum who was told them by neighbours - I assume she felt it was too much to tell her children. I am aware that they were initially accepted but when the war started they faced quite a lot of hostility & also spent the whole time fearing invasion & being found.Oh gosh how wonderful (having and getting to wear the tiara) and what a special treasure
But how tragic they had to leave their home land - and had to hide what possessions they could carry when they fleed

Just like his bags in outlet with “gems” on the flap, half of them were missing.
I couldn't resist the dancing couple brooch, but it is very awkward to pin on, and the prong is thick and catches on threads. Almost unusable. The smaller brooches look like a better choice, but most of them are too 'cute' for my taste.
I’m glad your grandfather was happy here for the most part and enjoyed his work (I think I would enjoy that too if I had those skills!) but I’m sorry that your grandma struggled
