The rare times I channel hop onto this tripe now, I don't watch with an amused glint in my eye, I watch with a sense of negative amazement and tend to hop off the channel again after a few mins at most. I would genuinely LOVE to see how many units of stuff they shift per show along with a list of presenter performer i.e. who shifts the most down to the least. Maybe the reason Peter Simon gets away with his truly pathetic and patronising style is because he shifts units? It often happens in sales. You can be a complete and utter d*ck but if you make the company good money, they let you be.
I know they are there to sell stuff and make said stuff seem really good to viewers, however surely it's no longer appropriate to almost have a 'moment' live on TV when you've been shown a smart phone accessing the Internet or a combo microwave crisping the skin of a chicken. These devices have been out for YEARS and whilst it can be argued things like smart phones are impressive, most of what they do (certainly the ones IW sell) can hardly be looked on as ground breaking.
Peter Simon ranks as one of the worst. He's shown something e.g. an e-bike and he squeaks and squawks like he's been shown the secret to eternal youth. And then you wait for it ...
'JUST BUY IT, I MEAN JUST BUY IT.'
Never in the history of man has there been a more ridiculous statement, certainly on this channel. Maybe it would be a valid statement to use by a salesperson in a Ferrari showroom if they were selling a £150,000 car for £20,000, or in a jewelers selling a £5,000 Rolex for £500. However no Peter, I'm not going to 'just buy' a cordless vacuum because IW is selling it for £50 less than the nearest competitor ... it's hardly the same thing.
And don't get me started on the bonded leather stuff they sell. Are buyers of this cr*p actually aware there are active lawsuits about trying to get the term 'bonded leather' banned because the stuff you're buying is so far removed from real leather that the word 'leather' shouldn't really be used.
As for the watches, again Peter Simon and that other dude (or should that be dud) obviously think their shows are highly entertaining (sharing saying the phone number etc) but again the utter garbage they come out with leaves you in disbelief. 'Insure them, take pictures of them, lock them away in a high security vault. Take our word, these watches will be worth a fraction of the price you've paid in years to come so ... just buy 'em!!!'
If you see through their shenanigans and bag yourself purchases that, for you, are good value and products you like, fine. However it's those conned by the drivel that I feel sorry for.
