When I hopped on to IW last night, they were flogging a Trenton watch. Presenter referenced the lifetime warranty and said to this effect:
If you're thinking ah but they might not be around in 20 years, let me assure you, Trenton has been around since the 1880's so I think it's safe to say they'll likely be here 20 years from now ...
This statement may indeed be true if the brand had been consistently owned by the same people/group since then, but if my Googling is right this is far from true? The brand has passed through various groups since its inception, so the current Trenton is essentially feck all to do with the original. Hammy can correct me if I'm wrong? My point being it's perfectly possible the brand might have been dropped again x years down the line.
Same as every night, I'll be sat downstairs watching TV, hubby will be upstairs watching TV, and they say romance is dead. What are people’s plans for tonight, Think we’re going out for food

Not really, we enjoy watching them. All three of us in our house went to University, I studied English, and my husband and son studied Chemistry. We just like to see how many questions we can answer, keeps our brains young.Posh
Wife and I used to like University Challenge in the days of Jeremy Paxman. No, not really. On a Monday night we sit together to watch University Challenge and Only Connect.
There’s something deeply sinister about Pedro’s face in this photo. Imagine gazing into those eyes across a candlelit Valentines meal deal!
Your knowledge of such things is fantastic. Also the other point he is wrong on, is that in 20 years time (heck even 5 years time), any problems with a watch will be deemed as wear & tear, not a fault, and will not be covered by the guarantee and that is a 100% guaranteed fact.
Okay mostly true, although there is a very, very tiny link with the name to the original, but not in the way Jannice is insinuating. Although many different owners etc, The Trenton trademark will have passed with each sale of Ingersoll. The purchase of the bankrupt Ingersoll by Waterbury saved the trademark being lost.
Trenton watch company (used to make pocket watches) existence ended in 1908 when it was bought and incorporated into Ingersoll (Trenton no longer made watches, Ingersoll used them to make movements for their watches).
Ingersoll (London & USA) went bankrupt in 1921, was bought by Waterbury Clock Co.
Waterbury sold the London assets of Ingersoll to the London Directors of the company and Ingersoll Ltd became a UK company, the American Ingersoll assets were incorporated into the Waterbury Clock Co in America which later renamed themselves to The Timex Group.
Ingersoll Ltd (UK) was sold to UK company Zeon watches in 1989, Zeon is a subsidiary of the Chinese Herald Group.
The present day Ingersoll and Trenton are no longer companies, just old brand names that are used by Zeon ltd.
No plan, but I'm single so it doesn’t mean much to meWhat are people’s plans for tonight, Think we’re going out for food
