Speaking of cost prices.

Was just having a scan through Verbal Diarrhea selling the £1500 9K gold watch in the early hours.

“loss leader, blah, blah, blah, Jakey look up the cost price on this,”

Silence while we wait for Jakey, then it turns out Jake’s screen is frozen, no cost price.

But verbal diarrhea is adamant it’s a loss leader cause she herself knows the cost price, of course she doesn’t reveal it, they really do think we're mugs.

Strangely can’t find the Luxoro brand mentioned as appearing at any Las Vegas shows, but there again that’s not surprising as why would Luxoro watches (a VGL brand) being made for and only sold by VGL’s TV channels be at the Vegas Jewellery trade shows, it’s not like anyone can buy it.
Personally, I thought it was straight from TJC's stock as they've been selling it for months at loss leading prices.


£1500 watch and the only information we were given was, how much gold it contained, sod all info about the movement, sod all info about the brand, where it's made, etc. If I were paying £1500 for a watch I would want to know a bit more than just it’s gold content.

I caught a bit of this when channel hopping. I laughed out loud when she said something to this effect:

I've spoken to the managing director and they've given permission for this to be treated as a priority sale. That means if you buy this watch, it will be treated as a priority item by the people who work in our stores. Your watch will be picked from the shelves before any other item, packaged and sent on its way before any other item!

WOW, that's amazing, I'll have three please!!!

I’ve always said SL is the alter ego of another poster long-term. Patterns of behaviour- away for a couple of weeks, then back again for a quick fix. Sometimes posts very articulate, punctuated well, and generally sensible offerings. Other times, badly written - almost deliberately so. The same confrontational ‘switch off’ routine from something you don’t like. But equally, cannot switch off from a Forum they have no visible desire to be a positive part of. All very odd.

I ran a shopping television forum - a poor rival to Graham’s in the early 2000s. But what I did do reasonably well was deal with trolls and trolling, which I was besieged with at one point. Trollish behaviour needs to be moderated regularly. Warnings issued. And ultimately, if the behaviour remains the same, the user removed from the site and IP number logged and blocked. You simply cannot have somebody disrupting and upsetting (remember Late Arrival?) the group at will with no consequences. That’s my view. We are not here as somebody’s release valve and personal entertainment through confrontation session. Or at least we shouldn’t have to be.

I think he/she is Ofthemasons former elocution teacher who he stopped using cos he talks well proper now and finks he will save a bit a dosh. Although bitter he/she defends them in order to hopefully get re-hired by him or one of the others.

If you're wondering why we offer items like this on a buy-all, here's why. We're offering each watch for £200 or buy all 5 for £950. As we've told you, each watch should be retailing for £2,000. So let's do a bit of maths. If you buy all 5 for £950, the actual value of them is £10,000. So you've saved around £9,000. Then if, for example, you wanted to sell them on, you could still offer them for less than the £2,000 they're worth and pocket a nice profit. We do have collectors and the like who do that.

Then the disclaimer bit to keep them right (just):

I'm not saying you should do that, however it's an option.

No Mike, the watches are worth much closer to the £200 retail than the ridiculous RRP of £2,000. And you seem to be forgetting if folk want to buy these watches, they would most likely do a Google search and find places like IW selling them for £200. So good luck anyone buying them from you to try and then sell for e.g. £1,000.

Jokes aside, this sort of 'buying advice' from these muppets is dangerous.

Sadly there are idiots out there that buy into this rubbish.

Ebay is full of watches from these "quality luxury" brands that feature on IW, selling way, way below IW's prices let alone their alleged higher value.

I'm just back from Currys. Only went in for a USB cable but came out having bought a washing machine, 50" tv, laptop, vacuum cleaner (with HEPA filter), fridge/freezer, cooker, camera, air fryer, carpet cleaner, dish washer and a smart watch.

Well what could I do? The salesperson said my order would be treated as a priority. The people in stores would be picking out my items before all others. I mean, who am I not to believe them?!?

The only thing is I'm just home and ... I forgot the blo0dy USB cable!!!

This, literally this is the main reason I find these sales tactics actually evil (though I think at least one other person ‘I’m going to hell, me…’ knows it, if only deep down).
Blowing £200 on a watch worth, charitably, £50, is a silly thing to do. But I guess, if you like the look of it, and get 5 years from it (actually not all that likely in my experience), then it’s perhaps not the end of the world.
But Mikey-boy, here, is - in the full knowledge of what the watches really are - trying to persuade the viewers, who we all do know are not all very well-off (and after two decades as a watch repairer, I’m certainly not well off, to spend £1000 on something worth, again charitably £250 - for the five of them.
I’m sure he makes a good commission from it (or at least keeps his position as ‘golden boy number 2’), but he has to know that he’s just cost someone £750 or more - or is trying to.
And to prove it, all he has to do is, as Hammy says, look at eBay. These watches do not sell for what Mikey-boy says they are worth, nor for what IW sell them for. They sell for- when they sell at all - for much, much less.
So, Mikey. I’d like you to prove there are plenty of collectors doing what you say. Because I think you know there aren’t, and just don’t care.

As we've said with many of the watches on sale on IW, if you are just after a watch for everyday use and you like it and willing to pay then fine, your money, your choice. But if you are a collector and want have build a decent/good collection then IW is not the place for you to be shopping at.
Okay not everybody can't afford a collection with a Rolex, Omega, Tudor etc, but you don't need to own the big brands to have a decent/good collection, there are hundreds of affordable brands out there who'll give you more horology bang for your buck than IW brands do. Now there are a few brands on IW (VE, Mathey-Tissot, Traser) which could be part of a watch collection, but again IW is not the place to get them, shop around and you'll find better prices & much more detailed technical information on your watch purchase elsewhere. There are also a couple of brands whose watches would be good enough to be part of a collection at the right price, but i would never buy them because of the marketing tactics of the brand owners, namely Nubeo (or any Solar Time watch) & Dechump.

As for his Collectors buying all to re-sell, if they are doing that then they ain't collectors in my book. If a collector has a few grand sitting around to buy watches, i highly doubt they'd be buying watches from IW. While some collectors will sell watches as a side business to finance future purchases for their own collection, they certainly wouldn't be using IW as a source for watches to re-sell. If they are then they are obviously either new to watch collecting or know very little about watches.
