Usual story about heat the room your in, trust me we had to do that when the boiler went watsits up. In practice didnā€™t work and cost a fortune in electric to do so with an oil filled radiator. Similar to ceramic in that there is some stored heat so switches off and on with its thermostat. It was that cold week but still surprising how cold a house can get with out proper heatingšŸ¤”šŸ„¶Mind you we managed when we were kids and central heating was not the norm 60/70ā€™sšŸ¤£Iā€™ll stick with a properly set up central heating systemšŸ˜†

A former colleague of mine used to say "you can't argue with stupid". Interesting that they picked on the most vulnerable here and not those of us who couldn't care less if we're named. I hope nobody picks on their partners/children/parents, I have a feeling they wouldn't like that very much. Karma has a way of biting you on the backside when you least expect it. I hope they remember that.
Following an internal review IW announced today it has replaced its entire TV production crew in an effort to improve broadcasting standards on the channel. They have released a picture of the new team in action, they go on to say.

We would like to welcome Simian Sally, Primate Peter, Monkey Mike and Chuckles Ferrara to IW. We are confident our new team will bring a new level of professionalism to our output, one that befits our high end luxury products. With the new staff in place IW can now boast that the combined IQ of our studio has now risen above 35 (a first for the shopping channel industry).

I was wondering about the cost difference of using central heating vs using a single electric heater, which IW always tell us will be cheaper. Lots of variables obviously. However this article was quite interesting ...

To be balanced about it, the article doesn't say one approach is by far better than the other. Here are a couple of their summary points if you can't be bothered reading the whole thing :) And I've put some points in bold.

Of course, you wouldnā€™t use an electric radiator all of the time, and would have it turned off while the main heating is on. However, our figures give a comparison and to just warm a single room, while the central heating is off, a single electric heater should be cheaper. However, as you can see from the figures, based on heat demand required, running a couple of electric heaters in a home is expensive, and using central heating soon becomes the most efficient and cheapest source of heating.

Weā€™ve given a basic picture, but keeping running costs down at home can be complicated. For central heating, smart heating controls can help save money, particularly if you install smart thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), which give you individual control of each radiator, lowering the total heat demand at any given point. At this point, as youā€™re only paying to heat one room at a time, itā€™ll likely be cheaper to run a single radiator than turn to an electric heater.

Conclusion: which is cheaper, an electric heater or central heating?

Overall, an electric heater with a thermostat is often cheaper to use in one room than to heat the entire house with central heating. However, when you do need to heat the entire home, central heating is the better option.

December 1st tomorrow. Apart from a pathetic tree, you wouldn't know it would soon be Christmas. Same old stuff, heaters, blankets, lotions and potions. They don't deserve customers if they can't be bothered to put the effort in.
Too busy upsetting people on here. Christmas spirit and good cheer to all about as important to them as an accurate price comparison.

Pedro is one of the worst culprits when peddling heaters. It's going to be freezing, and we can ill afford to heat our whole houses. You must buy this, and the Sherpa blankets, hoodies before you all get soo cold. Seven pound to get it home. Scaremongering at its worst.
I do actually sympathise him having to heat his bedroom with just a ceramic fan heater.

Its winter, it gets cold every year. Viewers have probably lived through quite a few winters. I'm sure all of us on here have our winter things (apart from any central heating) heavier duvets, throws, fleecy PJs and socks to name a few. Primark sells loads of stuff like that very cheaply. I'm aware there are people who struggle to afford heating, but the solution is unlikely to be found on IW.

I love chimps and have adopted one in a monkey sanctuary in Dorset. They would do a better job six days a week and twice on Sunday.

Interesting post, for me better to have the central heating on. Have it set at a nice ambient temperature and it only fires up occasionally to bring the temperature back up. Have it switch off 9.00pm ish, never bother with the up stairs radiators and by bed time the chills been taken off the rooms. Works for me, was miserable fighting to keep just one room warm.šŸ¤”šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ˜ƒ

Last night Alex claimed you could turn on an electric blanket he and Pedro were selling, detach the lead, take it on a long car journey and the stored heat would keep you warm. That miracle material ā€˜CERAMICā€™ is everywhere now.
