One thing I should have mentioned though Watersiren, is to bear in mind that jewellery is not covered by Recorded & irrespective of price, is only covered if sent by Special Delivery, which is perhaps the only time I would actually bother using a signed for service!

If it's fashion jewellery and within the insured price, I would use recorded and state the item is a 'fashion accessory' as opposed to jewellery - special delivery charges have gone up and I was really shocked to be charged £4.95 for an ordinary letter (had to use special as recorded is only tracked upon receipt whereas sd is tracked for its whole journey and refunded if not received on time!) - I wouldn't want to spend over £5++ to return something valued under £37.
