Price Increase - Even More Ridiculous?

Adina is another one who used to be 'OK' but has now become one of the worst for BS.

Yesterday, she was flogging a 0.26ct Ethiopian Emerald ring in silver. The price went to £299, and she claimed they should have stopped there. She also said that Jake had been considering removing the stones from the settings to have them set in platinum.

Final price: £20.

Claiming that a stone that ended up selling for £20 should have stopped at £299 and was worthy of being set in platinum is the ultimate shystery.

I would have reported it to the ASA if I thought it was actually worth it and that they’d take action.
It's all about greed.
They're obviously trying to get away from the 'low price' ethos of the original Gems TV.
Big mistake! If it's not broken, don't fix it!

Of course, a stone that they can bring down to the value of £20 is obviously worthy of platinum, I don't think. But regardless of what you think of the stone: be it a favourite or otherwise, if they can bring it 'that low' proves the point. Not of it's 'value', but how 'cheap' it was to acquire, and consequently how much it is physically worth as a gemstone.

Petrified Wood can be quite nice. I've got a few gorgeous pieces.

I didn't pay £199 for mine though - or anywhere even close.
Me too and same - nowhere near £200. You can get really stunning "rainbow" examples from Arizona or "opalised" ones from the Far East. Lovely pieces of furniture too (stools, side tables). All for comparable prices. Nice slices on a stand make perfect gifts for people you don't really know or for men who are difficult :) . In a bangle? Not sure at all.

Erm... they've definitely totally shifted away from their original reason for being. This is full market price +++ for this type of ring. All claims to "cut out the middle men" are demonstrably false with pieces at this sort of price. Even if a high street jeweller asked £1000 for this, I'd think that they were bonkers - and it's likely that they'd only have the one piece. The pendant in the same design was, I think, £800.

(3.7g metal. Ruby is 8x6 African heat-treated. 85 diamonds, only 8 of which are 2mm or more. None of the diamonds have a clarity grading.)

If you have the contacts, the cash and the inclination you can buy this size and grade of diamonds pre-cut by the bucket load. Even a Cash4Gold type shyster wouldn't be interested in them.

At this price, this really is a Shopping Telly product of the worst kind. Gems TV is definitely no more.

It said G/H SI on the pendant. Of course it’s just 9 ct gold.
