They all have really immaculate nails. Do they get an allowance for their nails, seeing as they need good condition nails for jewellery etc. Wonder if there is anything in the rules they have to maintain nails. I try with mine hard and use pro strong but cant escape that doing so much cleaning, I struggle.

Did in the early days presenters have their nails done at Super Nails?

I should imagine they have inhouse hairdressers, manicurists and pedicurists, and make up artists, plus also someone to organise what clothes they wear.

Gosh I like the fringe benefits! Dales nails always look matt but Charlies look very glossy!

I don't holmca, I think they are responsible for themselves. Remember that pic of AY dressing room she shared? Pig sty. They always go on about getting their hair/nails/makeup done on the day by whichever guest/entourage is featured.

I must admit I never saw AY's dressing room. What I meant was that I didn't think they did their own nails, hair etc. when they were due on a show. I would certainly think that if there is a beauty show etc. on then they would use that product, e.g. Laura Geller, but I don't think Laura Geller would do all of their makeup.

But then what happens if it is a day of cleaning and bed linen shows?

I question the amount of gardening and cleaning they all claim to do? Their hands tell a different story!

They look the same as any other day! Some good, some not so good. CH always looks nice in CID which she says she uses but doesn't look the same makeupwise when they are not on. AY looks overly primered and concealed on Mally shows, China doll effect! Clothes wise, well, mixed bag, mainly not so good, especially DF in Tiana B, and any of them in Quacker (especially at Christmastime!)

Whether they pay out themselves for stylists - who knows?

I personally love nice nails and I would pay to get mine professionally done if I had a job that required my nails to be up close. And I think the majority of them do,again out of their own pocket - I don't believe QVC stump up the cost of all it - as there are some presenters that don't bother with their nails...gilly halliday for example.

I imagine there must be guidelines on being presentable. How they are interpreted I imagine is up to the individual.

I watched a Leighton Denny show recently with one of the new presenters (Chloe?) and she was saying that when she got the job she was told she had to sort her nails out. I didn't catch what she had done but she didn't have gels on and seemed to suggest she had looked after them herself with a bit of advice. I would be surprised if they didn't have a manicurist though

I think, from what various presenters (Ali K has spoken of taking various polishes to the girl that does her manicures, Pipa I believe does her own) have said in the past, they are responsible for their own hair/makeup/nails. Whether they choose to pay a professional to do that for them, or do it themselves is, I imagine, their own choice, so long as they look well groomed.

Interesting. I guess though if anyone came to work with less than perfect nails then Q might not be very pleased.

I remember Dave Bradford saying that when he started at Q he had bitten nails and had to have acrylics (or other fakes) til his own nails improved. (Why do I remember this shite?)

In the 80s when I worked at M&S as a student, they had a hairdresser and chiropodist for the staff and the performance appraisal included marks for appearance and grooming. When I briefly went back to work at M&S a few years ago these services had been axed and the fabulous staff restaurant reduced to a fridge of sandwiches or a nuke-it-yourself microwave...such a shame!

QVC is just a department store afterall, there's probably an accepted standard of appearance.

When I first watched a jewellery show I wondered whether they have their ears professionally cleaned - or at very least inspected before going on air? Well it's impossible to check one's own ears for the exacting standards required for the earring close up!

Hope they advise her to sort her hair, make up and clothing out too! those stinking boots!

They maybe have a discount arranged with a local salon (or salon chain) few companies would pay for an in-house service these days.

Camera close ups must be a nightmare. I remember reading somewhere about a model ( not a Q model ) who shaved her arms every single day along with other hair removal because close ups showed the tiniest hairs. Not too bad in phtographic modelling cos it can be air brushed but TV modelling and presenting must be a nightmare. Not many of us have our nails, hands, arms, ears inspected so closely by an audience.

Iv cleaned five lavs today, try doing that and see what it does to hands and nails. I guess not many of them do this!

I cant understand how Dale manages to keep his hands and 'sausage' fingernails in such good nick 'no I cant do that darling, Iv got to watch my nails, for work'

Not everybody can look like or have hands like a TV presenter or a model. If only ....
Nurses are constantly washing their hands, mechanics get covered in grease or oil, gardeners are out in all weathers, cleaners have daily contact with strong detergents etc etc. I guess we all have to bite the bullet and accept that we have limits to what we can look like and just make the best of it.
