Postage thoughts

Have you had a look on ebay for the 946ml Purity SCW as there is one on there for £29.95 free postage as opposed to QVC's price of £39.00 plus £4.95 postage.

i dont need it at the moment as i bought a fab set with it on Q the other month for about £10 more with 3 other items & 2 of them im technically sold which means the 2 items i did want are only costing less than £10

What? Everywhere sells Charlie Bears cheaper, most other places offer Charlie bears delivered free p&p which instantly makes them £5.95 cheaper than QVC, from Amazon to ebay, but the best place I've seen is ConnaughtOnline.

you dont get these Q exclusive charlie bears cheaper anywhere like gumboots i paid under £50 now goes on ebay on a regular basis £80-£120

sprout & parsnip are 2 of my fav Q exclusives & i know my friend has just sold both for £60 each (paid about £30)

as to be honest the normal charlie bears i can take or leave but the ones that charlie bears make ONLY & Exclusive to Q are much more to my liking

Sounds like you got a good deal then SCW but worth checking ebay when you need to replace it.

yeah but there again ebay is my least favourite place to buy things

I know what you mean. Plus there's a reasonable chance of being sold a fake on some brands.

Loads of Chinese suppliers are doing copy stuff which is virtually identical to the original - but with creams or cosmetics, I wouldn't want to take the risk on brands that are known to be copied as the ingredients won't be the same quality.

Even 'Kipling' bags are readily sold on Ali Express, complete with monkeys and branding, for a fraction of the price for dubious sellers to offload on ebay.

Just saying that with some things it's good to choose an authorised distributor for peace of mind on authenticity.

Were you to be sold a counterfeit product, eBay/Paypal would refund the full purchase price under their Buyer Protection programme, including outward postage charges so the 'peace of mind' is the same from both. And if you couldn't tell if your 'dubious' purchase was counterfeit, then that tells you something about your expectations of the original.

that is the one thing that bugs me is all the fakes & its trying to tell if its real or not, its like i saw a top i like & i thought is it real or not & my friend who has a lot of them has confirmed its a fake so its hard to tell & yes id rather buy from a authorised one or buy from elsewhere where that i know it will be real just for my own piece of mind

Both QVC Italy and QVC Germany offer one postage for all purchases on the same day. In the case of Germany, only 5,95 euros! - Italy is 6,95. I've investigated as, being in France, I had hoped to order some of the products as they are cheaper in Euros. Unfortunately they both only deliver in their own country but it does show what a postage rip off we have when buying from the UK Q.

I just don't want the hassle of having to make a claim - my time is more important to me than saving a small amount by using ebay for some things where there is a greater chance of fakes.

It has nothing to do with my 'expectations' or inability to spot a fake (given my experience in commercial imports / exports I could pretty much spot most fakes) but has everything to do with keeping the hassle to a minimum... just my choice.

That's really interesting.

I think the UK set up is a bit long in the tooth and the warehouses are spread out - not like Amazon with one huge place. I think Q just doesn't have the processes to support this at the moment.... although they could get onto it if they have enough incentive.

But, let's face it, just redesigning the website has taken them over a year and hasn't been a beacon for successful change so I wouldn't see them rushing to change something else so established as P&P charges.

Anyway, whilst sales and profit stay healthy, they won't have much reason to change.

Totally fair enough, as you say: it's your choice. Look, we're playing nicely!

I spend part of the year in France, and I am constantly struck by how much cheaper delivery costs are - one would assume in larger european countries delivery would be more just because of the physical distance but the reverse seems to be true. It's an old line, but we do always seem to be ripped off in Blighty.

Parsnip was on ConnaughtOnline website for £25 free p&p so I feel sorry for the people who don't shop around and end up paying almost three times as much.

I've had brilliant bargains on eBay, Molton Brown, Philosophy, even a diamond ring. Ebay is mostly people like us who want to make a few bob, I've never been ripped off, in fact, the only people I get ripped off from are QVC, they send me second hand items and try to pass them off as new and charge me full price, when you can see the item has been used, out of every five things I order, three are visible returns, where as eBay, the last thing I bought was a Kipling bag for a third of what QVC would've charged, yes it was clean, yes it was new, yes it was original. eBay also have a brilliant customer service and will always refund immediately if there's a problem, no questions asked.

overall e-bay for me is a positive experience. my best buy was some beautiful curtains interlined and fully handmade in the fabric my sofas are covered in and they fit my window for £25.00 they would have cost hundreds of pounds new.the fabric is not made anymore so very rare. the seller wrapped them and put in a box sent by courier delivery. the condition was as new.some e-bayers are stars. some are irritating but mostly good imo

It took me a long long time to dip my toes in eBay. I buy frequently but never sell.

I have had some fab items (mostly jewellery). at the sort of prices Q used to sell at (and less)
One or two not so good items which were probably my own fault as I didnt request enough information from seller.
And 1 item which was not as stated or shown in the pictures, but I used it anyway (prai serum).

I fact the last two pressies for Mr L were from EBAY (I off items) and he was as chuffed as nine pence.

2 things amazed me was the excellent photos and the postage, often free. I think I was far too conditioned by the awful Q website and the woeful pictures and the high postage.

I have been buying from ebay for years, only once in the whole time did I get a fake. Spotted it straight away reported and money refunded. It wasn't a big deal, didn't take weeks to sort out.

I have bought perfume, skin care, Burberry make up and jewellery all great deals. I know what to look for, read feedback and avoid MAC and Chanel the most faked on ebay.
