I have recently purchased Nail Envy for the first time as, due to a tough pregnancy last year and now being on medication for a severe DVT, my nails have suffered. They are thin, weak and splitting. I am on my first week of appling Nail Envy (the 5th day) and I was just wondering how long it would take to see results? I am using the original Nail Envy as I didn't know which other one to go for from all the other variations - Sensitive/Peeling etc. I hope this works as I used to have really strong, lovely nails.

While on the subject of O.P.I, i would just like to add that I have also recently purchased the crystal file and I would 100% recommend it over Leighton Denny's.

It'll probably take about a month till you really notice. Don't they say our nails grow about 1/4 inch a month? Think that's what I read.
But at least they will be protected in the meantime.

It worked for me by applying an extra coat each day for a week then taking the lot off & starting again each week. I've used both the regular Nail Envy & Sally Hansen's Miracle Grow (from Boots) this way to sort out my ruined gardener's nails.

I'm sorry you've been having such a rough time following your pregnancy. Hope you're soon on the mend & feeling better.

Thanks, been in and out of hospital all the time for the last two years, what with mental health problems, then the pregnancy, then my twins being poorly and now me again! lol. I'm sure I must be able to claim squatters rights if I'm there any longer :giggle:

Sorry to be negative Jacqueline but Nail Envy did absolutely nothing for my nails despite using the whole bottle and following the instructions religiously. My advice is to file them down really short and wear Nails Inc caviar basecoat all the time, either with or without varnish (stays on till you take it off). I use their oil pen at night whilst I'm watching TV and my nails are now really strong after years of splitting and peeling. Really simple routine too. The last thing you need is a lot of faffing about.

If the nail envy does nothing I'll give that a go. I've been umming and ahing over that oil pen for a while but have never been overly impressed by nails inc. Worth a try though.

Most nail strengthers will dry your nails out. If your nails are peeling could be due to dryness, so you will need lots of moisture put back into them.

Nail Envy worked for me short term, then my nails just broke after a month of use. I was told I have good strong nails but they are very dehydrated and need moisture not strength.

Nails Inc did nothing for my nails either.

As said file your nails right down and then start adding moisture as many times a day as you can remember. Strangely Liz Earle Superbalm worked wonders on my nails. You can get a small 5mls size. Trind is the brand I swear by now, QVC no longer sell it.

But its horses for courses, what might work wonders for one person might be rubbish for someone else.

Avoid anything with formaldehyde in it.

Sorry to hear you've had such a difficult time Jaqueline. My nails (along with my entire body!) were in a terrible state after a pregnancy with hyperemesis, but like Bensmum I found Nail Envy to be utterly useless. I followed the advice of two coats to start with, one every other day for a week, then take it all off, but by day three or four my nails looked like they were covered in matted and chipped gloop, and were visibly worse in condition. I think it's partly becasue you have your hands in water so much with little ones. And I'm not convinced that anything you just paint on top of a nail will help that much (though I know it seems to work for others!) The thing that I found that really worked was ProStrong, particularly the flouride nail treatment, and an apricot nail oil that I think was helpfully discontinued :giggle:. It seemed to strengthen my nails without making them brittle. I haven't needed to use it for a couple of years now and don't know how much of the range QVC stock, but I'd highly recommend it if you can find it...I also think the advice about moisture is right, I found Leighton Denny Slick Tips to be the best oil in the absence of the ProStrong one, and I can see what Donna says about Liz Earle Superbalm, as it would act as a barrier over the moisture - I struggle with the lavender in Superbalm so just use plain Poxytane Shea Butter.

Hope some of this helps and that you are well on the road to recovery now and enjoying those gorgeous babies :up:

Has anyone used Nails Inc Air Street yet and if so was it much cop?

I had hyperemesis too Artdeco. Lost 3 stone in 2 weeks at 1 point. Luckily, my twins got to 37 weeks before we had to get them out by c section and they're fine now. I can honestly say that my twin pregnancy was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. But Noah and Saul were worth every second of it. I didnt suffer too badly with my last 2 pregnancies but this one.....wow! Spent more time in hospital than out. Had to be on drips, have blood tranfusions, be tube fed. Not nice. xxx

OPI Nail Envy

I also found it did nothing for my nails. In fact, even though I kept it away from my cuticles it seemed to peel back from that part of my nails and just flaked off. I tried using it as instructed and I just ended up deeply frustrated.

Hi Jacqueline :hi:

Unfortunately things like pregnancy, illness, medication etc all have an effect on our hair, skin and nails and can show up months after the event. Strengtheners cannot penetrate the nail plate, they can just protect the nail. The OPI sensitive & peeling nail envy is formaldehyde free but the Original isn't.

The health of the nail comes from within and it is possible with you being on strong medication that this could be one of the reasons your nails are thin and weak along with hormonal imbalances from pregnancy.

The matrix of the nail needs nourishment and the best way is to massage any oil/balm into the cuticle as and when you can, especially if your hands have been in water and at night. This will stimulate the blood circulation to the area providing the nutrients from food to help encourage strong nail growth.
