It crossed my mind yesterday that the code was for the year (Chinese year (?)) but who knows.

Ps: My order has arrived! I placed it yesterday 12.16, it was shipped two hours later 13.54 from Nottingham and delivered this morning 11.55.

i also think it was for Chinese New Year
which started earlier this month
good going there with the swift delivery
hope you enjoy the Retin Oil as much as i do
and the other hand cream goodies look very good too

The lid on Retin Oil is a twist off one, not very convenient, especially for oily hands. I find that deciem is skimping on convenient packaging, the worst being those vitamin jars that they use for NEC, FM and HV.

I tried Retin Oil last night – what a horrid sickly smell, it was waking me through the night and I’m not particularly sensitive to smells. Having said this I am going to carry on using it to see what it can do for me. The both hand creams are strongly scented too, but not sickly, I used one at work a few times, and each time I used it I was expecting a colleague to comment on the smell. The blue one with hyaluronic acid was very good and moisturised my hands immediately, it’s very light and I would’ve liked it to be creamier to give some kind of cushioning to the skin, but I still like it for instant and continuous moisturising properties. The ‘instant youth cream’ I used over night , but the results should only become apparent after 10 days so can’t say anything so far.

I think things that smell horrible can become acceptable if they produce fantastic results... as long as they don't make you feel nauseous or give you bad headaches (goes without saying that any kind of physical reaction and the product is out).

I'm really grateful to the NIOD users on the forum for feeding back on their experience with using the products... I'm itching to try it, but I cannot justify it at present in the face of the mountain of more conventional skincare I still need to work my way through.

yes, you have a point there
and while i don't mind the jars
i would have liked a spatula with them
but have found my own solution with a little spoon

in my mind,
the thing with Deciem is that you get very concentrated products,
crammed full of active ingredients
it is all about the effectiveness of the product
and no consideration is given to scent, surface feel or customer expectation
such as you would get with a 'spa' type range

packaging is basic
but then again, in my mind, you are getting a very concentrated effective product
with no frills at a very good price
not at a 'Perricone' type price
and it is not for everyone
this kind of uncompromising approach
(again that is why they go 'we are the abnormal beauty company)

just as a sort of example
if i were to purchase a Retinol product form Alpha H
i would pay around £100 for 90ml of a 0.5% Retinol oil
and the Hand Chemistry one is £20 list price for double the Retin Oil concentration of 1.0% for 100ml
(and we both got a far better deal than that as well)

the HC Retin Oil only came out as a 'body product'
because Brendan Truaxe was bound by a non compete agreement for face products
but he could put it in a 15ml bottle and sell it for the face, now,
as the agreement is now over
there was a Sunday Times article about how this is suitable for the face
and i have seen Brendan say it as well
so i am fine with the basic packaging as i am getting a really active concentrated product at amazing value

btw, the top is pretty standard and you may have a flip top lid on some other bottle which may fit
or decant some in a dropper bottle ?
it is obviously not cheap anymore if dropped and drained on the floor with oily hands
i agree )

What you say is very much borne out by one of the replies Brandon Truaxe gave on the recent-ish session he did answering questions on Caroline Hirons blog (I'm not her publicist, honest). It's one near the top of the comments listed (there are 207 comments on this blog post, so it's useful to know this, I think).

The answer is in response to a Hylamide-related question:

Brandon Truaxe [DECIEM]8 December 2015 at 00:59

Hello Suzanne- Smiles from Canada! Hylamide brings a significant amount of science but its aim (communication, effects, pricing and distribution) is geared toward a broad audience who seeks accountability in skincare. NIOD targets a narrower audience who is open to discovering truly the edge of topical science and whose focus is more on longer-term skin health and less on shorter-term results.

In this context, it may seem odd to read what I am about to write, but Hylamide generally would offer visible results more quickly than NIOD would because its focus is intended as such. NIOD's focus is more on longer-term health of the skin which approaches the various signs of ageing at the very root: the health of skin cells; while Hylamide has a very specific technology to counteract each sign of ageing. The two approaches are very distinct. Hylamide is about targeting the problem itself; NIOD is about starting at the root.

In very short terms, if you use MMHC, using Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age would offer additional shorter-term results but in one year's time, you would largely have the same skin condition if you just used MMHC alone. (I assumed your reference to Hylamide was to SubQ Anti-Age; if you meant the Low-Molecular HA Booster, then you absolutely do not need to use it if you use MMHC).

I and we are at your disposal.

i don't mind it
not that i love the small
but i just think of it as a Vit A&E oil 'with Amazonian oils & Sea Algae' (see back of bottle)
i am possibly a little hard core as i have a huge range of pure plant oils
and many don't smell very 'nice', left in a pure unperfumed state
but i don't mind that, to me they smell natural

i did meet my match the other day though
via a bottle of Sunday Riley Artemis Oil
it was a 5ml sample but the full bottle costs £80
it has flax oil in it (plus lots of other good pure natural oils)
and no artificial perfume
flax oil is fab for the skin, lots of omega 3
but boy, the pong !
i smelled like a chip shop after midnight
so there you go,
this is were i personally draw the line lol

do you have any Decleor oil, like Neroli ?
i think if you just added two drops to your application of Retin Oil
it would not interfere with efficacy
and might take the edge of the scent for you
(unless of course you are sensitive to essential oils)

re the hand cream and the cushioning
yeah, i am not surprised
'very Brendan',
all about the deeper layer epidermis mosturisation,
no stopping to spend time on surface hydration feel
it is odd and takes some getting used to
i have the Hand Chemistry Hyaluronic concentrate for hands and body
so i can relate to what you are saying
i tend to think of it more as i do the MMHC for the face
let it do its work on below surface hydration
and either mix it in ith my body lotion or butter
or apply some hyaluronic and then body oil on top
it takes a while 'to get' what it does on the deeper levels
but my elbows, which have always been super dry to the point of crocodile skin, are so much better after about a month of occasional use

so if i had the hand creams, i'd probably use them like a 'serum' underneath another one
for the day i like the BalanceMe super mosturizing hand cream which has a slightly waxy finish
so it lasts and seals in all the goodness
and then over time, you should need less and less of both products
as your skin benefits from the deeper level mosturisation

I agree about the effectiveness of the products and I don't mind basic packaging at all, but instead of the tall 'vitamin jar' they could've used a wide mouthed jar, and instead of a pipette supply a pump, it'snot expensive at all. I have lost 1/3 of copper concentrate because I accidentally knocked the bottle and the concentrate so thin that I couldn't catch it in time. I did find a flip top to replace the top on Retin oil. The vitamin bottles drive me bonkers.

I will try to mix some decleor oil in Retin oil or some essential oil, thanks for the tip lillith.

Re Flax oil I've read that it's not suitable for skincare because it's comedogenic

This is extract from a book about oils.

Non-suitable Vegetable Oils
Linseed/Flaxseed Oil
INCI name: Linum usitatissimum
Due to the high content of
polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega 3)
found in linseed (also called flaxseed)
oil, it can go rancid after 2 weeks if not
stored in nitrogen-flushed and capped
bottles. Even if it is, I do not recommend
that you use linseed oil in any skin care
products, as it will turn your product
rancid almost immediately. The same
goes for wheatgerm oil, which will go
rancid a few weeks after its production.
Taking Linseed Oil internally
Linseed oil is high in omega 3s but it is
too volatile, and can go rancid after two
weeks. It is possible to take it internally
under the right conditions, such as if it
is stored correctly. The only way to store
linseed oil safely is to use the method
which nutritionist Udo Erasmus uses to
produce, bottle and store ‘Udo’s Choice
Ultimate Oil Blend’, i.e. to use cold
pressed oil, which has been protected
from heat, light and oxygen and then
put into amber glass bottles which have
been nitrogen flushed and stored in a
refrigerator to ensure maximum stability.
Vegetable Oil alternatives to Linseed or Fish
Oil
Fish oil capsules may appear to be
only omega 3-rich alternative left as a
nutritional supplement. However, you
could instead make use of the omega
3-rich vegetarian alternatives of taking
kiwi seed, rosehip or camelina vegetable
oils. These oils can be taken internally by
taking a teaspoon at a time or in salad
dressings. For use in skin care products,
they can be added to vegetable oil blends,
creams and lotions. The skin absorbs
these oils very rapidly and they will be in
your bloodstream in a few minutes after
applying them to the skin. Using fish oils
on your face is not acceptable for me as a
vegetarian, or probably the most sociable
thing for anyone to do!
Wheatgerm Oil
INCI name: Triticum vulgare
By adding wheatgerm oil to your blend,
cream or other product, you reduce the
shelf life of the product.
Aromatherapists have written many
books recommending the addition of
up to 5% of wheatgerm oil to products
to keep them from going rancid. In fact,
it does the opposite. When starting my
natural skin care factory in Sweden in
the 1980s, I believed the British books,
and I added 5% wheatgerm oil to my
recipes. The shelf life of my products was
8-10 months, at which time they would
smell rancid. This is because wheatgerm
oil contains very little vitamin E oil (0.4-
0.5%). It also contains a large amount
of alpha linolenic acid that makes this
rancidity process even faster. In addition,
a rancid product accelerates the rancidity
process of the skin and because of this
we get wrinkles.

i hear ya
and i'd add proper results at a price i can afford

and to the second point
yep, i am still using my convential mosturisers and oils
and i am using NIOD on face in the am
and other night treatments i already owned in the pm
plus other mask etc and using my normal cleansers
and i am not really intending to throw anything away either

whenever you feel ready
you could just start on the CAIS/MMHC
and continue using your other serums and mosturisers and cleansers etc
maybe just go easy/easier on the acidy glycolicky stuff
as that may mean 1 step forward (for immediate glow) but two steps back (for medium and longer term skin health)
after about to weeks, i found that i as using less other serums and oils and needed a lot less mosturiser
so it is not really wasted from an overall spend perspective

result-wise, i also suspect that it may depend on age and skin condition
if you already have healthy skin
and are on the right side of menopausal (i am 52 this year and on the wrong side of it)
then you'll probably not get much benefit

for me though, it has seemed to have halted the depressing decline of my skin
and i have stopped avoiding the mirror
and it seems like not only had the relentless decline stopped
but actually there is now a turn around happening
and i am particularly pleased with what i perceive to have gotten a healthy contour back
and a sense of a skin that it not thinning or fragile anymore
and which does not need pampering and having layer upon layer added just to feel comfortable and hydrated during the day
maybe the way it was 10 years ago

and i have enjoyed playing with make up again
and having a go at looking attractive
rather then just doing the 'necessary', covering up flaws etc

and hey, i am not going down without a fight, hehe

it was this one : https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/sunday-riley-artemis-hydroactive-cellular-face-oil.html

it is indeed quite a thick oil
and goes off quickly
Liz Earle in her oils books says that it loses its benefits after 4 months
and goes off 6 weeks after opening
i have used Udo's Oil and currently using the Neals Yard equivalent
and i generally take my flax seed internally
either as oil or as milled seeds

regarding the pong, it had crossed my mind that it had gone rancid
but even the fresh stuff seems to be quite smelly

good point though, the Artemis oil is not in a brown bottle
albeit i stand corrected at the price, this one is 'only' £60

yeah, they just think : lab and out of the door
they package it like they do in chemistry labs really
we may have to do our own 'packaging' for the time being
if we like the effectiveness and price ...:mysmilie_10:

with the Decleor add,
i'd not mix up the whole bottle
i'd add one or two drops to what Retin Oil i have cupped in my hand
i know, there another non-pump dispenser from Decleor to wrestle with lol
but if it makes better to use

i found that the Retin Oil made a massive difference to ironing out creases on my decolletage
esp in the morning cos is sleep on my side
don't seem to have that anymore
and also has stated to refine the skin texture, even it out
and it looks less ruddy now
and feels nicely mosturised without adding a huge slather of cream or oils (as i used to)

so hopefully the pfaff aspect of it will also be worth it for you in the end

The answer is in response to a Hylamide-related question:

yes, thank you very much
i have been reading all those things, after you first pointed us in the right direction )
and also had the chance on another webchat to ask my own questions
and his approach really made sense to me
cos that is how i approach health overall

without wanting to go into a really long and controversal one
but in essence, the pharma industry and convential medicine really manily just look at managing symptoms
and the system thrives on prescribing another drug to manage the symptoms that another drug caused
until we all rattle when we walk, cos of all the pills most people have to take
it always looks at the symptoms and hardly at the root causes
and usually just the immediate mgt of a condition and not the long terms health of the overall interdependant whole
and the system goes KERCHING
i am just saying this to illustrate how i view things
and why i was interested in Brendan's approach
(and not to judge or argue with peeps who may or may not take pills.....each to their own...)

I'm still sitting on my hands, despite the tempting logic from Lilith... I'm also really interested in the Dr Dennis Gross ... but it's mainly the NIOD and other Deciem which I think is where I'll be heading when I've made a really good dent in my stash. I'm wondering if/when any of the other insider beauty buzz brands will find their way onto QVC. Possibly we have to wait another year to find out which ones, but QVC may be a good launch platform in the UK for some brands.

I've noticed this too in the morning and I was going to mention this in my 'next post'. And the necklace lines look softer too.

Lilith, are you saying that it's best not to use Liquid Gold any more?
