I've noticed recently that Ali Y's make-up is anything but flattering. Her foundation is caked on when she's close up on camera, her blusher is a very unnatural shimmery pink and her lips are insignificant. What does stand out is her very harsh black eye liner. I know she goes on about either strong lips or strong eyes, but she needs to tone it down. The black is far too severe for her skin tone in my opinion and she needs to soften it with a neutral shadow and blend it a bit. Make-up lesson over. :mysmilie_12:

I saw her during the 4pm hour, the way she'd applied her make up it looked like she'd been punched in the literal actual cheek area. It almost looked purply blue it was so thickly caked on. You know ages ago when she was brave enough to do a before and after shot during the Mally shows? In the before shots her skin was lovely, smooth looking and clean. No eye bags, nothing. Now Mally always makes a good job of doing her make up, it's when she does it herself...

..... she is "your resident beauty expert and has been here for 17 years". She's always saying she's a fully trained therapist and does wedding make-up, so why can't she do her own? Ok if you want to look like a Alice Cooper on your wedding day I suppose

The words 'beauty' and 'expert' in her case! More like 'mutton' and 'lamb'.

The great Alice has a really good speaking voice, is very intelligent, thoughtful and coherent, has had literally years as an entertainer, doing his own makeup and styling (which is appropriate for his job) and is also an animal lover. I love that Ali as much as I dislike the expert.

Disclaimer: AY could well be a genuine genius but her speech is so garbled it conceals it masterfully.

Ha just had an idea for a new show......."QVC Brides" outfits by Kim and Co, jewellery by KIrks Folly, and make up by Alison, eek have just scared myself, oh and catering by Kings Realm.

Thing is in basic beauty therapy training you do cover makeup application along with other subjects like waxing, eyebrow shaping, manicure etc once you have passed this level you are qualified in the application of make up.

However it is down to the individual therapist after qualifying to continue training further in whatever area they want to specialise in. To me a make up artist is someone who has done basic training and then gone on to do advanced training such as theatrical and media makeup, photographic/fashion makeup, camouflague make up (for tattoos, scars etc) and some even go on to do special effects and body painting. You don't have to do these but they add to your skills giving insight and experience in other areas.

Having that basic qualification does not automatically say that you are naturally talented or artistic, you can only prove this with a portfolio of your work that shows skill and experience.

Don't forget that Pilates machine on the NN feather bed for that first night of wedded bliss :cheeky:

Probably because they would have no choice in the matter. She strikes me as a bit of a bully. Far too opinionated, incredibly bossy & you would be scared stiff to argue back or challenge her.

Eve Lom stood up to her big time and Gobby did not take it well at all just like most bullies.

We stood and cheered that day.

AY has been in a rut for years makeup wise. She is a middle aged woman and the heavy black liner and Shimmerbrick plastered on are for a much younger woman. Now if she had olive skin tones she still might manage it, Sophia Loren still can do the black eyeliner. The only time she looks good is when visiting makeup people do her. With Mally her eyeliner was still too heavy and dark for her colouring.
She seems to pick up the odd bit of info and they does it to death. Black eyeliner many used to say it opened your eyes. No Ali, your eyes look like two pin pricks. Shimmerbrick is iconic, but after 40 you need a light hand and only use on certain parts of your face to highlight.

I keep having visions AY as Barbara Cartland!!!

Totally agree with you Donna. The harsh black rims round both eyes only make them look smaller. What puzzles me is that she sits on that chair listening to the experts but rather than listen to them she's butting in all the time about how many people are currently in the ordering process. If she'd just shut up she might pick up a few application tips like the rest of us do.

Maybe AY needs to get a Jerome Alexander makeover: he won the IW Beauty Awards after all!

Mind you, I think the 13 in 1 ladder came 2nd

I don't think Alison is a bully ~ she just has a strident manner and is outspoken. Bullies are sly and mean and spiteful. I don't think she's any of those. In her eagerness to get things across she can come across as overbearing, but I think she seems a nice person with a good sense of humour.

I think she has just been out of the training for too long. I agree with MsTrouble, its comes down to continual training in the beauty/hair etc industries as styles and products change all the time. I know she has access to some of the best make up brands around but that doesnt mean she doesnt get stuck in a rut like the rest of us.

I think she needs to get back into the field properly but that may be too scary for her to do considering how long she has been at QVC for and she would be losing a very lucrative (sp) deal!
