because of all the controversy , (especially about the Pink Pepper which is a favourite), as I had finished a PP I opened the one yesterday from the IW box with batch made May 2023 (I usually have 3 shower gels on the go and would normally have chosen something else). While the smell wasn't as strong the fragrance was perfectly ok, lathered well, and my skin felt just as soft as usual after showering with MB - for me I can't see the difference between this 18 months old set and the ones that appear elsewhere like TK Max - perhaps I am being dim😳.

Thankfully as I have far too many body lotions to get through I could swerve this tsv!😄
I know what you mean about the Fiery Pink Pepper. I got what I think is the same set from an independent discounter (same batch references as quoted on the forum for the IW ones) and my first observation was the muddy brown colour of the FPP and that it was virtually odourless. I was very disappointed, even though I did only pay £20 for the box of three, but I will use it - as long as I don’t get a skin reaction, obviously.

What concerns me about that Molton Brown from IW is.

A couple of weeks later, they had the sets again. 20 minutes into the presentation they said something had gone wrong, with the sale and had to refund those who bought from that airing, which got me nervous, If it come from the same job lot they bought, what was the issue

I do tend to overthink

I remember you posting that but knowing IW it could be a stock issue - from what I've seen (and I've watched a bit after buying the MB although have no plans to buy again) they are always talking about it's sold out/it's the last time you'll see it but then its back straight away - so perhaps they did sell all their stock without knowing.... I watched the other night and saw them selling supplements "to kick off 2024" on graphics when they obviously meant 2025 and something else was "guaranteed for xmas" but the graphics said "pre order for despatch 23rd" so unlikely ...😁

Is MB shower gel good quality, eg no SLS and other ‘harsh’ ingredients ? I’ve noticed cheaper gels are now drying my skin (I’m getting old 😱).
I’ve only ever had one bottle of MB. Which was the vintage elderflower one - which I think is the same as this set - given to me as a gift several years ago.

It had a lovely shimmer to it and it did smell beautiful but I’ve never bothered and wouldn’t buy for myself.

I am half considering this as set for my Bro and SIL [edit - just realised I’ve missed it..!]

It’s perceived as high quality and certainly think the perfumes (inc in the bathing products are).
I don’t know about actual sourcing of ingredients.

I looked on their website and it says their products are paraben free.
Also no SLS but does have SLES (similar type but less harsh).

If you’ve got truly sensitive and very dry skin it may not suit you.

At times when mine is bad I got to Sanex 0% or even more specialist products plus I think I like more of a “crème” base than MB which seems to be more gel? X

Realised it’s too late now - I thought it was tonight 🙄 - but when I was considering it for my brother and sister in law [have got them something else!], I wasn’t sure if the pimento gel and the Cardamon gel would’ve been suitable to gift to my brother?

As in are they unisex or even masculine scents if i can ask that!

He’s fairly manly-man in terms of scents but also quite a modern chap in his 40’s…?

Also maybe they reduce the elderflower gel after Xmas 🤞

Don’t check with Alison Young, she’ll do her nut if you ask about masculine or feminine! You know everything must be All Genders🤣.

I like a lot of the "manly" scents and for a younger man (yep, 40's is young lol) I would say black pepper, tobacco absolute, cardamom, black leather, silverbirch and the eucalyptus one is nice is well. Black and pink pepper are two of my favourites but the pink pepper is more girly.

Just checked my handwash bottle and that contains sodium laureth sulfate.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate is NOT SLS!
It’s SLES.

SLS is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which is the harsher and more irritating

I know it’s confusing as so similar!

And some people argue SLES can still be irritating to skin esp with more prolonged contact etc.

Haha that makes me young too then!!
Don’t feel it!

Thanks for the pointers.
Think he’d like fresh ones and tobacco absolute particularly…
But his wife my SIL would be more interested in MB in general!

I must have missed the posts about MB being sold on IW. Is it really that bad? Is the main issue lack of fragrance??

I am seeing more and more poor quality premium brands being sold across the Internet right now. I bought some rituals room fragrance and the packaging was exactly as you would expect from Rituals and yet the fragrance only held in the room for seconds.

I bought the same fragrance direct from Rituals and it lingered the whole day.

I do not trust these extra low prices with some retailers. You never know where they have obtained their stock. You really can't spot a copy these days. They look so perfect.

I did think that as I asked it!
And to be fair, I usually like more unisex scents myself.
I used to wear Cool Water years ago. Every time I wore my work colleagues always complimented me on it, but wondered why I got odd looks. Found out later that it was a man’s fragrance. Had no idea as it was always in among the ladies perfumes. Mind you in those days it was considered sissy for men to wear perfume. (Sorry AY)

I belong to two perfume forums and people just wear whatever they like, no thought of what sex it is marketed to. Men wear No5 and even back in history Charlie Chaplin wore Guerlain Mitsouko, but Jean Harlow also wore it. Sean Connery wore Jicky which now aimed at women. I wear loads of men's perfumes, does not bother me.
