Middle class QVC ?

"You'll pay about the same on the high street" well whoever wrote this obviously doesn't really shop at QVC, because their p&p instantly makes them dearer than anywhere else, so what an absolute loads of cobblers! :mysmilie_15:

They're the dearest place to shop, they have to be to cover all their overheads and "free" phone number, plus the majority of stuff is from America and only sold at QVC so I don't know how they can make the comments they have.

Yes, someone who obviously lives in a dream world wrote this comment! There are no doubt some exceptions, but most of the stuff is well overpriced for what you'd pay elsewhere - I can't claim to have price checked anywhere near everything they've shown, but most of the things I've checked out can be bought MUCH cheaper. They make a big thing about it being "delivered to your door", but as you've commented, the hugely inflated p & p charges cover this, and they must make a huge profit out of the p & p in most cases. Just one example: the dreaded Charlie Bears. Q bumps on a big p & p charge, but for most of the bears it is much cheaper to buy them over the internet - not only are the cost prices often less than Q charge but the retailers mainly offer free p & p! The only exceptions to this are the Q exclusives, which obviously you won't get elsewhere. When I bought a few bears as gifts years ago, I saved about £10-£15 per bear by buying online.

I agree H, they were obviously paid by QVC to write this article you can tell because a lot of it's wrong, and there's bits conveniently left out. So it smacks to me of a publicity stunt to hopefully draw in more customers, times must be hard.

What rubbish they spout. They are definitely more expensive than most high street stores and I believe the quality of some of their items is poor. I ordered three small items from Amazon and they arrived three days later in one small box with free P&P. And the items I ordered were approximately £12 to £15 cheaper than high st prices.

Yes I read that it had me laughing into my porridge. What a load of rubbish.

How patronising too.

I know some very non middle class people including myself who use Le Creuset.

I think they said (I don't want to read it all again to check) that they had 27 million viewers. That must be at least 1/2 the adult population, and probably far more than watch the most popular TV programmes.

And 168,000 phone calls a day to the sales staff ???? If each call lasted 5 minutes the call centre would need about 3000 staff divided into 8 hour shifts, although my maths may be wrong.

And Emma Bridgewater did NOT DESIGN the radio, just a bit of wallpaper to wrap around it.

I`ve read some of the comments underneath the article and oh by golly you can see the QVC sycophants out in force and almost repeating word for word the guff spouted by the presenters.

Oh the comments I read are warning about postage and paying if return, and doing web searches to find cheaper.

I have just read this article and find it hilarious that the two presenters they actually mention are Andi Peters (part time!) and Clare Sutton (is she famous then?). Del Boy must be spitting tacks!!!!

Also, a special mention of "artisan" firm The Real Pie Company...... :mysmilie_46:

DM love their sponsored articles, which this no doubt is. They have done ads for upcoming beauty TSVs usually in the Sunday edition for a few years. Why no mention of the weekly Dyson TSVs? I nearly PMSL at the clear information bit.

middle class familes want premium goods, free post and swift delivery non of which qvc can manage

Oh dear! QVC having to take the criticism in the Comments section! No Q moderators to remove the negatives and delete the recommendations of other retailers on the DM site like they do on Q's Facebook.

I was going to say similar. Nearly everyone these days is a lot more savvy and the middle class (indeed the very wealthy!) shop around for a good deal and the best service, like everyone else.

How hilarious. Implying QVC as a 'posh' shopping channel.Whilst exactly the persona they wish to create-with their 'celebrity' connections and 'high end' products it is still shopping TV accessible to everyone. Easy pay means any one can buy the overpriced high postage products . People who have the financial ability to shop around with no limits on spending, would surely be more discerning and go into specialist shops to buy their fashions etc(especially for something for an occasion)Not pay a premium for something that takes an age to be delivered in some cases and where they cannot feel and try on the garment. Also, what about that time when they have returned too many items? The' letter'.Not really a lure for the 'middle classes'.I can imagine though that the staff , hangers on and general creep ar***are absolutely over the moon and we can expect even more pretentious behaviour.

I thought Lidl and Aldi were the destination shops for the middle classes?

I once read somewhere that people who consider themselves middle or upper class have been known to shop at Aldi or Lidl but pack their shopping in Waitrose bags so when they unload their car it looks the part. Joan Collins was once snapped with her hubby shopping at Aldi and it hit the newspapers lol.
