Lulu Guinness

I totally agree with all the comments posted. The one thing that really grates on me is her voice. The marketing person they had on singing her praises had one of the most annoying voices too - wonder how many plums she had in her mouth. Is LG part of the Guinness Brewery family does anyone know? Probably not as I can't imagine she's down to earth enough to be associated with beer!!

I think she married into the Guinness family but is now divorced from her husband. She suffers very badly from depression. I have nothing against her (or the way she speaks!) I just think her stuff is wildly over-priced and I personally don't like it. As others have said, there is a recession on and qvc would do well to reflect this. Not everybody has a spare £200 to spend on a bag. It must grate a bit if you're struggling to pay your mortgage and someone's flouncing around extolling the virtues of a £100 plus purse. I've never been one for designer labels though. To me it's simply lining an extremely rich designer's pocket for the sake of being seen to be exclusive. Give me a Dents bag and I'm quite happy!:1:

I like Lulu Guinness as a person, I think she's rather sweet and quirky and it doesn't matter to me how a person speaks and I really love her designs, however, QVC are way off the mark with the prices of the bags.
I'll be honest, if I could afford it I woud probably buy her stuff.

Loadsa money!

Me to Mimi except I am not keen on a lot of her designs but they are nice and imaginative. Astonishing prices and they are not even leather!!
I would not judge someone on how they speak or their appearance. I am not surprised she is very out of touch with what is happening in the economy considering the circles she socialises in. The bods out there with loads of money are nice cushioned and dont feel the pinch like the rest of us.

If you like her designs check out the sale part of her website as there are some very good reductions. The prices are still not cheap but are much lower than the QVC prices - for instance there is a large Phillippa leather bag that was on a show with LG a little while ago at £345 and at the same time was reduced to £140 on her own website.

I have to agree that these bags are crazy silly prices. I was watching it yesterday afternoon and couldn't believe that they were actually selling out - someone out there has some cash that's for sure. Personally, I don't like the bags - not my style at all, even if they are "on trend". Where I live, which is the wilds of East London, it wouldn't be on your shoulder for five mins before you'd get mugged, so it wouldn't be a smart move to sashay around here with a LG bag that stands out a mile. These people live in another world.

I switched over to see the bags and agree they are over priced well for me anyway. The one thing that annoyed me all they were saying was how many famous people have these bags and constant name dropping. These people have lots of money or they maybe get them for free.Just because famous people have these bags so what! it wouldn't want me make to buy them even if i could afford them. I buy what i like not because famous people have them rant over.

I would have to absolutely adore and covet a bag to spend that much and I just don't really even like them. See much nicer bags on the high street for much less.

But then I'm not huge on labels for the sake of having a label.

I love handbags! I have quite a few radley bags, some of which I have bought in the sale and some which I have had as gifts,I also have a couple of purses. They are leather and very well made and considerably less than the Lulu Guinness bags.
I also like kipling bags, infact I love any bags!! but cant afford the Lulu ones, besides I find them a bit boring, nearly all of them are in red or black aswell.Good luck to anyone who does like them though, they are not my cup of tea.

Queenie, if you love Radley, have you seen the Ciccia range?

I always thought she was Topaz but I'm not sure, totally agree about the voice. Did you see her with the small black evening bag with a wrist strap towards the end of the show, she looked and spoke about it as if she had never seen it before in her life.

I thought the same, babytoes! She was waffling on about it being embroidered...er yeh..machine embroidered, so what?
Loony Guinness didn't have a clue.

I watched a bit of that hour, and dare I say there was a bag I liked? (The black patent Jenny bag with the 'red lips' lining). I rather liked her too, I think she is a bit of an oddball, like many very creative people - and discovering that she suffers badly with depression just makes me like her more. I think she is just very far removed form the lives of us mere mortals, and probably moves in circles where people don't bat a lash at paying 4 figures for a handbag. It made me laugh out loud when she suggested buying the Jenny bag in both colours!
Having said that, I don't think this expensive gear has a place on QVC at the moment. I am sure QVC's directors will be discovering very quickly that no-one can afford to buy it, - and if they could, they'd be popping into one of LG's own boutiques for it. Unless QVC can come up with some decent bargains, I think they will struggle to keep afloat through this recession.

I just wish they would acknowledge that these are expensive and times are tough. Last night they showed an Anna Griffin wheeled craft bag at £100 + but they said that whilst it was not cheap it was worth buying because blah blah blah. It's the assumption that we can all afford these very expensive things that gets me, not the fact that they are selling them in the first place.

Looking at some of her way over-priced jewellery it seems she's copying Simon Wilson in some designs. His 'lips' have been around much longer!!

I think the Butler & Wilson designs are far more interesting, and don't rely on a single idea, relentlessly pushed, for their ISP. They're also much more 'affordable'.

If I was about to cough up £50 for a piece of whimsical costume jewellery, I'd much rather go for B&W.
