It's the stare-y eyes that get me.
With that whining, pleading voice and the constant half-startled expression, I find him totally uncredible.

Also don't like they way they make up endless reasons to have something, hoping to hit on a reason you might want the item.

It's similar to cold reading, which mentalists use to persuade people that they know more about someone than they actually do, and that they have special powers. Mike Mason is a real pro at this, usually shotgunning the audience with very general, almost universally applicable information - for instance, selling the bucket washing machine, the general statements could include 'have you ever thought washing a chore?', or 'wouldn't you like an easier way to wash clothes?'. He knows that although this is global statement of universal applicability, a very small proportion of the audience will feel this statement is targeted very specifically at them. They are the target to capture.
