I know this is in the East , but it really sounds like Croydon!! I'm amazed.
Having said that I haven't been in a 'The works' since forever, so maybe they are all like that.

The Works in our town is a really nice place to shop, the staff are all long stayers & I always find something I want. Our younger daughter is a pretty good artist & during her GCSE & A level years I spent a fair amount of my salary buying her supplies.
