Is anyone feeling Christmassy?

I have bought a santa and reindeer sleigh ornament as a surprise for my daughter, she is having a buffet on Christmas Day and I just know she will love the ivory colour of it.

I have started to get pressies in, as I'm having a hand op on 9th Nov I'm not sure how mobile my hand will be, but I have bought the present bags and tissue paper just in case & sticky on bows.

Is it over yet? Can I switch on again?

The only thing I hate more than Christmas in Summer Day is Craft Day. I've been surfing LOTS OF OTHER SITES today. QVC, this is how to lose a captive audience.

Would ban Xmas if I had my way - cannot abide it. Refuse to watch any Xmas themed shows. :taphead:

I feel quite relieved, after reading posts on here, that i am not the only one who dislikes christmas; thank you all who dont dig christmas, you have made me feel human again! lol I get fed up when people ask me do you like christmas, and I give my femal version of a jack dee reply - and say "NO!" they repeat the no, and look at me, like i have little tentacles, rather like snails anntenae writhing out of my head, and i have left the UFO on tick over! lol. I dont think christmas should be banned, just be held when christmas should be held, in december - and not a bauble or a christmas card nor cake should go on the shelves until the last week of november.

I know for other people to have xmas stuff out on shelves now, helps them budget for christmas; but its companies like Asda and Iceland that should hang their heads in shame for their christmas ads, usually stars pushing heavily over laden trollies, with the subliminal message, that you too should have a table like this at christmas. One christmas my husband was away, and the boys didnt feel like celebrating christmas, (they had presents), and wanted chicken curry,(but we had homemade chicken curry! lol ok chicken in Homepride cook in curry sauce!) but it was the best stress free christmas ever! I think christmas now has been come too commercialised, the shops and shopping channels are now telling us what we should/not have in our homes and on our tables - too much emphasis on great big heaving tables, and expensive pressies.

A young family friend told me, that he would rather christmas be as normal as easter in his household, and instead of his parents going overboard with the presents at christmas, he would rather they concentrate on just one present for his birthday - he said he doesnt understand why once a year all the relatives argue as to whose turn it is to hold the annual family get together, he said why is it left to just that one day of the year, why cant your family do the same as that all year - he had a point! lol xxx

I hate new years eve. Part of the reason is because it means the end of Christmas and I love Christmas. In an ideal world I would like nye to be before Christmas to get it over and done with.

On the Christmas dinner, someone commented on frozen food. I always buy the turkey or chicken roast in the foil tray. I made my own roasties but did buy a packet unfort the family prefered the packet roasts lol. I also bung frozen veg in the pan. My nan came to us once for Christmas dinner and was getting stressed out about carrots sorry but life is too short.

Also I love the build up to Christmas but from end of Nov onwards is plenty there is no need for Christmas cards in the shops in Sept.

I remember when i was really young (many, many moons ago lol) I did enjoy the build up towards christmas - at home we used to make our own paper chains, with the coloured paper, and you had to lick the gum (tasted awful) and link them all up, we would sit there, in literally a little chain gang, licking and sticking like maniacs, watching the chain grew longer and longer! and then we would walk up to the woods, and get the holly, mum used to tell us to look for the holly with the most berries on - i always got stabbed by the leaves lol. And then we used to go to the market for the real mistletoe, which was hung over the main front door. Also we would be given logs, about one foot long, split in half, and my dad would have drilled a hole on the top of the log, so that when you turned it on its flat side, the hole was in the curved top, the hole was big enough for a candle, and we would put glue on the log, and cover it with glitter, and small baubles on pipe cleaners, and hey presto one cheap and cheerful table decoration! we did that with pine cones, use white cotton thread, and cover the pine cone in glue dip in glitter, and when dry, shake off excess, glue on feathers, and beads and use anything shiney and glittery, and hey preston, angels, fairies and doves! and we made bells from the cardboard egg cartons - kept us entertained and out of mischief for days. lol xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx i used to love haloween when we were little too, as we would make paper lanterns, as well as the pumpkin lanterns - those were the days eh? lol xxxxxxxxx

What lovely memories Persianglitter :47:

Me too. The sun is shining it's nice and warm. The last thing i want to be reminded about is that it's exactly 3 months to christmas.

I am sat out side the pub with my laptop, its 23c and we are talking about the QVC christmas....all i can say to that is:tongue2::tongue2::tongue2::tongue2:sod off:angel:

great thread, made me feel normal, I enjoy bits of Christmas, love the lights, love seeing friends but this year I have made the effort to see them much more throughout the year. One of my newish christmas traditions was to always have a very dear friend to supper on Christmas eve, sadly she died very suddenly this summer and I will miss her so much this christmas. She was a vegetarian so I always used to enjoy the challenge of doing a festive spread but minus the meat. To honour her memory I am going to keep Christmas eve a veggie day.

aw, that was lovely to have your friend round. Sorry that she won't be there this Christmas Eve, except in spirit. Enjoy your veggie meal on the 24th this year in her memory - Bon Appetit :flower:

I'm with you on this one, silversequin. To my shame, when I get my address book out to send my Christmas cards, I'm always reminded that I haven't seen some friends for a whole year. Time rushes by so quickly, I will take a leaf out of your book and contact people soon.

As for "am I feeling Christmassy?" - No. I've got my dad's birthday, my birthday and 2 nieces' birthdays to go before Xmas. And I refuse to eat a mince pie before 20th Dec at least!

just goes to show persianglitter that the best things in life are well and truly free. and making stuff with people you love is more important than getting into debt buying the latest techno gadgets.
that made lovely reading.
