How much are those perfumes peter?

If the product is a recognised name, you can always find it cheaper by just typing it into google and looking at what pops up, often the difference in price is 'quite extraordinary' (as St.Peter Simon would say). Its daylight robbery but there obviously are a lot of mugs around who are prepared to pay well over the top. Whenever they do a price comparrison its always taken from someone like Harvey Nicholls or Harrods or whoever has the highest price. So beware

Changing the subject slightly I saw "Laurelle" perfumes for sale on Oxford St recently, they even had their own shop, I was impressed, until I saw that the facia was tied on with a bit of string and the "shop" consisted of a guy with a microphone standing in front of a pile of brown boxes. (v. classy!)..Unfortunately I wasn't able to stop as I had a train to catch, but I could hear the words "exclusive" and "designer" being bandied around quite a lot and something along the lines of if you were to buy these in Paris you'd not be getting any change from a £50 pound note.....yeah right!

Worse is the raft of brand new, unknown perfumes there bringing in, charging premium prices on the basis of their own opinion that in a few years they'll be a best seller on the high street.

The other Sunday they had some really cheap looking bottles 'Provence et Nature' - check them out on their website, they look like something you get for a couple of quid on the market. But they were hyping it up with some apparent fragrance / beauty journalist (who I could find very little mention of online). Trying to flog 2 for £50!!! They only had 50 but with the big dramatic introduction, they spent nearlly the whole of the first half hour with just the first set - half an hour to sell 50 items, they must have been making a very good margin.

And what's with that presenter turned perforume buyer, was he always such a scally looking but over the top, camp queen? He now has an office job and should stay in the office!

Peter Sherlock, I think perhaps someone was masquerading as him previously on this thread. Great presenter witty and intellegent, but like many of the others before him, it looks like any integrity he had is being slowly but surely sucked out of him! None of these perfumes are particularly cheap because come what may there's always an extra £8 to pay, so even if you're paying just £7 for the perfume, you've got to consider...would you spend £15 on a perfume you've never smelled before, and you don't know whether it's going to last more than five minutes on your skin...I know I wouldn't. With the well known stuff, they rarely go below the £30 mark, add on the postage and a better deal wouldn't be that difficult to find.

They need to introduce "try me deals" perhaps, which could mean if you didn't like it, you could return it free of charge and/or receive your p&p back as part of the refund..it would be a start! I very rarely buy from these channels any more, as I think they've gone to pot. The last things I bought were on a p&p deal and apart from a lovely brooch, the rest was complete crap. Polyester bedding and a weekend luggage set (Tommy and Kate) that tore the first time I used it!

Please sit up channels have a few more special offers, and I don't mean "flash clearances" they mean nothing...some proper honest deals please!...oh and less of the BS from the presenters, I'm sure some of them hate spouting it almost as much as we hate hearing it! (some are naturals though!).

Perfume is a hard item to sell on the TV as it is all about smell and people preferances, and I think Peter brings them across well, and will ONLY sell/ buy perfumes he likes or what he knows the viewer will like.

How does he know what we like? We are all individuals and perfume is a very personal thing. Yes, youngsters just starting out will fall for what is popular, or being pushed as popular but the rest of us want to trial a new perfume, get a sample see how it develops on the skin, how it sits with our daily life/personality etc. I use a different perfume in the winter to the summer. I cetainly wouldn't buy blind and neither would any other sensible intelligent man or woman.

He has been a presenter on the channels for many years, and he knows why type of perfumes sell well, and what doesn't. He isn't new to the business, and think "we'll try that one, they may like it..."

It's not only the Earnshaws, but it's all of the unknown watch brands that they sell. Watching Russell selling a Roberto Vecci watch yesterday and talking about the iconic RV logo on the dial of the watch. RV logo, iconic?!!! "This is a genuine Roberto Vecci, not a knock off " he said. Who would want to counterfeit a £25 watch? Get off the grass Russell. Then telling you that Roberto Vecci is a wonderful designer and watch maker. Is there such a person as this? I doubt it very much! Last night, there was Peter Simon saying Roberto Vecci is a household name! Hilarious!!

The journalist was Andrew Dell, who was featured in The Sun today.

The fragrances retail for 34.95 each, and are being featured heavily in upcoming press, including The Sun article today. As for me staying in the office - no chance. I enjoy my job too much and as they say, you can't please all the people, all the time. I do know that i personally receive lots of great feedback on the fragrances I have bought in.......

Julia, you have to do what works with you. Perfume is a huge seller for us on TV because I hope we treat it with respect and passion. Clearly you don't agree, but I have worked in the industry for years and I have a genuine love for this business.

We too were watching this perfume being sold on friday night and the seller was Peter Simon and not Peter Sherlock...even though the person who wrote the thread did not say which peter it was.
And he (peter simon) does tend to say that he found things on the web so much more money and names shops like Harrods and Harvey nicks too.
