This is a big favourite in the Q spiel which is currently having an outing in the Hotter show.

I feel quite left out as my invitations seem to have been lost in the post!

Although the guest presenter is quite nice and not a screacher wasn't she on earlier in the week with something else?

Enough said about Chuntley - bliddy annoying as per usual

Can't remember the last time I went to a garden party,do people still have them ?

It's exactly the same when they talk about wearing a dress to a cocktail party, who has those any more,we just call it a good Pxxx up.

yep that's another one. together with 'wear it during the day doing xyz then add ABC and go out to dinner/theater/nightclub etc - ' yeah as if!

Sorry I would have replied sooner but I was on a garden party crawl...and I had to change into a different floral maxi dress with a matching wedge (singular) for each one!

Well I hope you applied your day to evening make-up gel eye liner and red lip to go Akimbo!

Talk of garden parties and cocktail parties makes me think of dresses with net underskirts, hats with ribbons blowing in the breeze, stillettoes sticking in the wet grass, jugs of Pimms etc etc ..... nowadays they call it Grand National Day at Aintree !

Er, which year would that be ? Cos the pictures I saw in the paper most of the fashions being worn were more like contenders for Hooker of the Year !

True Brissles lol but in the posh enclosures there would be a few hooray henrys and their ladette to lady partners but you might have to look hard for them.

This 'desk to dinner' business must only apply in London (correct me if I'm wrong), because there is a different work culture in the capital, whereby it IS straight from work to the pub/cafe/restaurant before catching the train home.

Sadly for me it was always 'computer to cooker' AND peeling the spuds without taking my coat off - does that sound more familiar to the working woman of today ?

Too true it does Brissles although I'm a bit of an oldie and didn't have a desktop or laptop. The computer in my day was contained in a room.....yes a room the size of a box-room/small bedroom! Even so, I'd walk through the door at home and do a thousand and one things before taking off my coat and shoes. Still do it now!

I'm going to a garden party in Aug to celebrate my brother's 50th. What worries me most is being bitten - I attract mozzies etc like fly-paper. I will be head to toe in repellant, not very fragrant

The garden is more a back yard but hey !

I can recommend Avon's SSS (Skin so soft) body oil in a spray (the original fresh scent in a green bottle...the pink version doesn't work) It's been around for years but still works and is nicer to use than mozzie repellents. You can buy online form avon or there's usually lots on ebay. Let it soak in a bit before you put on your floral city short with a little pump so you don't mark you clothes but it gives you legs a nice sheen if they're on show (ofcourse they are, you're in a city short!).

Tea tree oil behind your ears if you tend to get bitten around your hairline.

Great news G's Mum, I hope you have a wonderful day, and let us know if you see any of those mythical city shorts there!

Today, the concept of the garden party lives on around the world. No longer just an event for the well to do, the garden party is a weekend staple in many neighbourhoods. Neighbours are invited to come and enjoy the great outdoors by attending a cookout, complete with plenty of grilled food, lots of seating, and usually plenty to drink. It is not unusual for a few simple games to be available as well, depending on the size of the space. Music does not necessarily have to be provided by a live band anymore, although some people prefer the chatter and laughter of people enjoying themselves to any type of musical accompaniment
