So, he thinks Gems TV jewellery and gemstones are better than any other shopping channel? Oh dear, well that's a question mark on his GIA Jeweller qualification straight away because they can't compete with TJC nowadays!!

As for Pam Auja's comments about his relaxed but authoritive style fitting in with the existing team! They're a bunch of screaming shouting women and are anything but "relaxed"!! :Laughing1:

I don't like the way Gems.tv made presenters redundant and closed down gems.tv 2, and now we see all these new faces.

I think that's fair comment Krosbint, coming from someone who has worked for Price Drop for a good while. Today someone, I think it was Nick, actually used the expression pile 'em high drop 'em low (how common! - lol). Think they're all becoming barrow boys. Wonder what his expert opinion makes of the £11.99 pink crystal pendant(? a bead) and earrings set we had the pleasure of previewing this afternoon. Despite all the tat, Gems do have some absolutely stunning jewellery too. I know I keep going on about the rainbow sapphires, but my rainbow sapphire and dimaond bracelet from Gems is just phenomenal, and I have had some beautiful cheapies too. In fact many of their designs have improved immeasurably since the early days, and I'm definitely not giving up on them. (That rose gold pink sapphire orchid ring is still in my basket - who else would have something like that?)

I have to say, though, that I hardly ever watch Gems, and do almost all my shopping via the website. It is a great shame that they have diluted their high-end offerings with blend of downmarket junk and inelegant presenting. Oh, well.
 
I've just seen James for the first time..... although he wasn't shouting I did find his style a bit off-putting. I think it was the reference to "quids" rather than ££££ (someone mentioned this before); also he never quoted the price as shown, always rounding up or down to a rounder number when the price shown ended with 9. As a finishing touch he kept referring to a final price of £200 for a pair of blue and white doamond earrings when the price on screen was £219. If only I'd wanted then I'd have rung up and offered then 200 quid!
Not sure he's going to grow on me.
 
He is just a clone of Peter Simon / Andy Hodson but not as good as either of them.
 
Its the thing that he does, the hand and finger movement, that he is ALWAYS doing!!! - come in handy one day - hypnotising cobras or snakes in general! but thats it! lol it will take a very long time for me to get used to his presenting patter - actually, it wont, as when he is on - i cant watch he makes me feel sea sick! lol xxxxx
 
Is it just me, I think James is a good presenter, he just has to settle down a bit as he has done the Sit Up Channels for a long while now.
I just wish I was years younger and then I could ogle him without being guilty. LOL.

I don't watch Gems much now but I switched on last night and saw him for the first time, presenting some platinum pieces. I thought he was really good and professisonal - "relaxed but authoritative" seems a fair description - and only switched over because I wasn't interested in that line of jewellery. Would definitely watch again when he's on, though.

Did any of those Platinum pieces sell? At the end of each auction they seemed to time out, but as per usual, the presenter says 'stay on the line and press button 1 or 3'.

He'd toned down the hand / finger gestures a bit last night and was rather more accurate with the final prices. Previously he'd been quoting figures way below the actual prices. Not to mention that everything was stated as ** quids!

But, not to be too negative, he does speak slowly and clearly and looks very presentable.
 
I saw him for the first time today and thought he was OK. Quite easy on the eye for a start! The thing that bugged me most was that he kept referring to the start price compared to the final price: "We've just taken £200 off the start price, so that's £200 in your pocket." type thing. I thought the start price was not meant to have any value or worth, so these statements must be meaningless? Perhaps the people in charge will ask him to stop, because it's pretty confusing.

Does he remind anyone else of Nick?
